First of all, are you talking about USB or serial connections? Second, has HotSync ever worked on the laptop?
Now, for the obvious... is the HotSync manager configured correctly for the method of sync on the laptop? Right-click the HotSync icon and confirm that Local USB or Local Serial is check as appropriate (if both are checked, uncheck the one that does not apply).

You might want to check out the VisorCentral FAQ for information regarding USB hardware and software issues.

It's possible that there was a problem with the USB drivers and/or registry settings. Installing the new software probably did the trick. Since it's working now, I wouldn't worry about what was wrong...

Two Computers, One PRISM

Same problem here;

Handspring gave terrific support:
Hours on the phone and replacement of both a Deluxe and Prism after a terrible crash.
Dell then replaced the MotherBoard.
Desktop was reinstalled.
After two months of hassle, the USB port and HotSynch finally work.

One last problem hasn't been solved, so I gave up on the home computer.

When attempting HotSynch, the PC says you can't have two PDAs with the same name, and won't HotSynch.
There's only one PDA: two PCs.

If I try to rename the Prism with the lambda.5 command, the PDA registered name disappears, but the desktop still will not HotSynch.

So I gave up.

I have suffered in silence bacause Handspring did so much to try to solve the problem, and I felt my overlaoding abuse may have contributed to the problem.

Do any of you geeks have a solution?

Your input would be deeply appreciated.

Bruce
