New Batteries Killed my Platinum

I changed the batteries in my Platinum for the first time and it won't work since then. I put in Energiser AccuRechargable 700mAh, and Think they killed it. It doesn't work with brand new regular Alkalines now either. I now see that the manual says to only use alkalines, but other people on these forums recommended these batteries. Does anyone know why it isn't working anymore?

Try This

I had the same trouble with mine last night. Replaced the batteries, the screen flashed and then gave me a Fatal Error. After that it wouldn't turn on at all. Went to Target and got some new batteries, still nothing. Put in old batteries...nothing. After contemplating the Handspring customer service number, I tried a soft reset. BINGO! Back up and running as good as new. Not sure what happened, but all is OK now. I guess the moral of the story is to try the easy stuff before going any further.

I tried resetting, but it's still dead.

You'll have to provide a few more details about what happened if you expect any meaningful help.

what happened when you put in the rechargables? did the screen flash when you turned it on? did you turn it on? were they charged? did you accidentally put them in backwards? etc etc

since a reset didn't help, i'd try leaving the batteries out overnight and putting them back in to see if that helps.

There was no flash, or any responce from the Visor. The only other factor I can see playing a role is that, while I'm almost certain that I did, I may not have had the Visor turned-off when I removed the batteries.

i've had my visor on while changing the batteries before (accidentally hit the power button taking the cover off) and haven't had anything bad happen to my platinum. it just gets turned off when you pull the batteries and comes back on when you put new ones in. at least mine does anyway.

have you tried the extreme hard reset yet (leaving the batteries out)? a couple of hours should suffice to drain any residual charge left in the storage capacitor and reset anything that might have gotten messed up in the battery change.
