Talking

What do you guys think of a content module that featured say Playboy's Playmates of the year? Or Sports Illustrated babes? Would look cool on a Prism. Any way, I think it would be a cool module. You would need to work out licensing issues with the right people.

...like your mother, your sister, your wife maybe; certainly with God. I would hope most people wouldn't even consider this type of module, due to the 'corrupt' database. Rather than frying your PDA or your screen, you would be frying your brain. I realize that that's a pretty high hope.

isn't that the way it goes? porn is always one of the first industries to take advantage of technological advances. you got to hand it to those horny bastards!

I read Penthouse was palnning to do something with PDAs, this module could be a possible next step for them. The guy they interviewed said something about how porn always takes advantage of new technology because it allows its "readers" more privacy and the PDA will let you bring Penthouse to places you wouldn't normally, his example was the beach. I think they have nude beaches for people like that though, and its a scary thought that anywhere I see someone with a PDA he/she could be looking at porn without me knowing it.

We already have the InnoPack/2V for that vibrating action

Gee ... for the beach HS would have to work up an iPaq / M505-type screen, eh?
And, as for the porn police, I guess the PDA industry could just mandate, henceforth, that all PDAs are not merely "Ice"-colored -- but actually clear, with double-sided screens, so everyone, everywhere all the time could BE SURE you're NOT looking at porn ... and even mandate that you hook it up to the 'Net, where the Porn Police could actually monitor each and everything that ever goes across your screen and ....

Hey, where are those pansies?

I'd like to use this post as a perfect example as to why certain moderators of this site have no rational thought j/k.

I think a porn module would sell like crazy, but would be a complete waste of perfectly good technology. I seriously doubt Handspring wants their Visor product line to become "high-tech sex toys."

but.....

God doesn't like porn?

O why has thou forsaken me!

All kidding aside, Porn is a good thing in terms of technology. The Porn industry has lead all sorts of advances in improving technology...from the VCR, to ecommerce, to improved data compression, to the multi-camera-angle DVD.

I doubt a module is the right technology, but we will see something soon from the wizards of the porn industry.

Wouldn't your desire to have video cameras everywhere and at all times pretty well cover this?

Does what Handspring wants really even play a role here? Did the makers of PCs want their products to become "high-tech sex toys", or was DARPA concerned about what is shared over the Internet? If Penthouse licenses the Springboard technology, they can pretty much put whatever they want on it. There is already quite a bit of adult-oriented material available for PalmOS.

Guess I'll actually get into this fray now.
(I do so like a good fray.)

Aside from a porn module redefining "handheld computing" where would you expect this to be sold? Staples, OfficeMax, CompUSA, Target certainly won't carry it, there would be too much backlash (or chance of it).

I suppose if it were tied with a specific magazine, it would be sold via whatever on-line store they have.

Making a springboard is apparently expensive -- I can't think of one for less than $40, regardless of functionality. Any magazine that wants to get its content onto handheld screens would likely find a way a make a cheaper PalmOS based program and .pdb, for maximum exposure (that is, after all, why print still exists -- the initial hardware investment is much smaller). It might even be more cost-effective to create a CD-ROM of material.

Personally, I have no interest in such a thing, but hey, whatever smotes your bloat.

Not to drag this out any further, but I wonder if the Penthouse (or whomever) folks have talked to Innogear in an attempt to build the Vibrating Alarm and Porn Module. Seems like a match made in heaven, and with the high-tech porn industry backing the project, Innogear might finally get a product out on time!

Have none of you heard of Fireviewer, HS Photo Album, Albums to Go, etc.? And if you want it stored on a SB the Memplug also has a picture viewer. J/J of course, hehe.

I like that one. Does it really mean something, or does it just sound funny?
