Visor Phone - SIM locked?

I recently sold my visorphone because ATT wasn't offering GSM in my area. Well, the day after I shipped it out, I get an ad in the mail saying they are now offering it in my area:

Anyway, I'm thinking of using a VisorPhone. I talked to the guy and he said I need to know if it's "SIM locked" - which would allow the phone to be used only with a SIM from the original network.

I'm guessing that these things aren't locked, becuase the one I sent went to Austrailia and seems to be working fine. See PGroves thread in this section.

They are not locked. I had a visorphone with Voicestream activation. Just when to China with it this summer. Upon arriving, it picked up Vstream roaming but it's $2.99 per minute, so I bought a pre-paid SIM card from China Mobile, put it in and works great.

Yep you are right 4wheeler & kruiser the visorphone is not locked. I have tried 2 different sim cards fron 2 different telcos here in Australia with the phone you sent me and they work great. No lock at all. ( im sorry about the ATT thing after you sent the phone to me) thats a real bummer.

Not your fault. I'm just glad to know that it'll work. Now to keep my eye on ebay.

Just to add my 2 cents... they're all unlocked.

I'm using a US VisorPhone with a British "Pay-As-You-Go" SIM Card. Overall, no problems replacing my US SIM with any UK SIM using the VisorPhones - as long as the Mobile Telco uses either 900/1900 MHz.

Unfortunately, I cannot get one of the pre-installed functions of the SIM card to work.

When I enter *#10# to see my outstanding balance (a pre-pay feature), the call cannot be made. I get some pre-recorded message telling me the number dialed has not been recognised. I've tried the SIM card in a "normal" mobile and this works - no problem.

Could it be that keypad tones (i.e. the sound made when a key is pressed) are different between countries? Anyone had similar problems and is there a work-around?
