Smile

I have been looking over these forums for awhile and figure this group would be my best chance to find a solution to my problem, if one exsists. I have a PC at work with a serial cradle and a PC at home with a USB cradle. I can sync my Visor deluxe at either site, although I initially just synced at home. I use Outlook 2000 at home, but I use Lotus Notes 5.0 at work. Ever since I synced with Notes at work, My Visor will not sync properly with Outlook at home, which might be expected. I did lose my home Contact list, but it was already synced in My Palm.

And now, finally the question. Does anybody know a way or have a suggestion as to how I might be able to sync my Visor both at home and at work with the two different programs?

This might more appropriate in the "How To" section but since I'm here...

I'd lay the blame on the EasySync software. When you installed the EasySync conduit, the Lotus setup also has you install a couple of file on your Visor that seems to cause problems on non-Notes PIMs.

If you search this site on the keyword "EasySync", you'll find a number of messages describing how EasySync "breaks" sync'ing.

The only workaround/solution I know of that will permit you to sync with both Notes and Outlook is to use Puma's IntelliSync or Globalware's Pylon conduit and discontinue the use of EasySync. Both IntelliSync and Pylon syncs quite nicely with Notes. I've used IntelliSync to sync to a 4.6 and 5.0 Notes configuration at the office and used the Handspring-supplied Chapura PocketMirror to sync to O2K in another location with no issues.

Yup, EasySync is the problem. It adds additional databases to the Palm that confuse other conduits.

In addition to your suggestions, TrueSync also has a Notes accessor. It's free from calendar.yahoo.com.

Unhappy

The yahoo truesync conduit seems to be having a lot of problems. I wasnt able to connect successfuly. But when I installed the truesync conduit from excite.... it worked like a charm. It downloaded the yahoo conduit too. if the yahoo conduit does not work, try the one from excite.

Yeah, I sometimes have problems syncing with Yahoo.

However, I want to clarify that you can use the Truesync application that is downloaded from Yahoo to sync other devices and applications; you don't need to sync to the Yahoo service. So if you want to sync your Palm to Outlook and Notes you can just add those accessors and not add the Yahoo accessor.

Personally, I really like syncing to web services so that I can easily access all of my PIM information from anywhere.

I was going to try the Excite Truesync but that does not list Lotus Notes 5 as supported, just 4.5 and 4.6. Does the Yahoo truesync support version 5?

Well I thought that it did. However, I just went to do a Truesync Component Install and noticed that it doesn't list any Notes version anymore. It doesn't list Excite either and it used to. Previously I think that Truesync downloaded from both Yahoo and Excite were the same; you just selected which accessors you wanted to use. Now it looks as if things might have changed.

But, at the StarFish site the list of components includes this blurb:

Lotus Notes
Directly synchronize your devices, services and other installed PIMs with your installed Lotus Notes Calendar, Contacts, Tasks (To Dos) and Journal (Memos). This accessor supports Lotus Notes versions 4.5, 4.6, and 5.0.

Sounds like they might be tweaking the versions supplied by the various services.

I don't know about syncing with Notes on one PC and Outlook on the other, but you can sync with Notes and the Palm Desktop using Easysync on the Notes system.

Using a tool like Z'Catalog, change the CreatorID of the Sync* files (SyncDatabookDB is used for the Notes Calendar). I changed mine from date to datx. Part of the problem is the Sync* files have the same creator ID as the real database. This confuses conduits other than Easysync. By changing the creator ID, the other conduit (at least the Palm Desktop) works on one machine and Easysync on the other.

I hope this helps,
Ed
