Hi,

after some time of useage, my visor's screen appeared to get loose on the top part. Tapping on the screen moved the screen backward. Also when shaking the visor, one felt the screen moving in the case..

To fix it, I opened up the visor by removing the 4 screws with the built in screwdriver in the stylus. I then folded some pieces of an old business card and stuck them in both upper corners behind the screen.

Now the screen has support from the back of the case and tapping feels much better now.

Just thought someone might have the same problem.

Thanks artelse! Sometimes, a low-tech solution provides the best results!

On my Visor, I took two business cards and folded them in half (vertical crease). I placed one towards the top of the unit (right above and next to the ribbon cable) and the other was placed towards the bottom of the unit, right above the buttons.

The added thickness makes it very solid! Thanks again.

My screen had the side to side looseness as well as the flex in the corner. I inquired with Handspring and they offered to replace it if it was a problem. But since I figured it would just happen again with a new unit, I tried the business card trick. One card folded over at the top of the screen solved both problems. (The screen is attached to small plastic posts, which break away from the case.) This was a cheap & quick solution with no bureaucracy. Also, and best of all, the Visor still worked when I put it back together.

I had the same "broken posts" problem. It manifested itself as the top of the screen "giving" when tapped, while the bottom of the screen was rock-solid. I got it 99% fixed by putting 1/2 a business card in the case.

I didn't send mine back for fear that I'd get one back with worse problems.

I'd bet that the posts are different on later revs of the molds.

Don't think so. My build week 24/2000 device still exhibited it. Fix by two folded over small post it notes.

I have a different situation, but it probably involves taking the case apart also. My BVD was dropped on the table and now the blue plastic top and ice plastic bottom are ever so slightly out of alignment. If I turn it upside down and loosen the screws will I be able to realign them perfectly? What kind/size screwdriver should I use?

The worst thing about this board is finding problems I didn't even know I had.

I hadn't noticed the screen "flex" at the top until I looked for it. I guess maybe mine's not as bad? It flexes maybe .5mm at the top if I push on it pretty good. It certainly doesn't rattle or move, but it does move, and at the bottom it don't.

Oops! Another problem that I am now aware of.

In addition to the loose screen, the contrast is fitfully jumping in and out, making reading impossible and the groove that the top of the cover snaps into is breaking away.

Three strikes, you're out! I will be requesting a replacement from Handspring.

Winchell, do I have to completely detach the covers (remove the screws) or do you think I will be able to realign the covers by just loosening the screws a bit? Also, I assume that I have to loosen the 2 back bottom screws, and also the 2 screws underneath the springboard cover. Do I need an advanced degree in engineering or computer science to do it? My visor may be obsolete before I graduate!

Thanks for the tip!! I didn't even know I have the loose screw problem. The more post I read, the more I check for DRAM problem, case chip, pixel problem, battery usage, etc. LOL.. thanks anyway

Fix loose screen

The folded up business card idea worked, but I still wasn't happy owning a device with poor workmanship. I called Handspring this morning and they are sending a replacement visor, no charge, no questions asked. There's a 1 year warrantee on these things. I say use it, and keep sending the units back until they solve the problems permanently. My 3 year old Palm III is still rock solid. No loose screen, no rattling sound.
