Edge price drop spur sales???

Well, Handspring has lowered the price of the Edge to $299.

Wonder if this will spur sales? Hopefully it will, which will then spur third party manufacturers to start to manufacture keyboards, cases, third party stylii, etc. for the Edge.

I'd also like to see some SpringBoards released with the new Edge Connector, or whatever it's called.

Time will tell, but I feel for $299, the Edge is a GREAT PDA~!

Just in case anyone just bought an Edge.

I just got off the phone with Handspring, it took about two minute sand I am being credited the 100$. So far my hats are off to the customer support staff.

Still, the price drop only brings the Edge down to the level of the Palm Vx.

For a device with native usb support, springboard expansion, better datebook, silent alarm, city time, faster recharge time, faster processor, clearer screen, etc. you think it should cost the same or cheaper than a Palm Vx?

Well, yes I do equate the Palm Vx and the Edge. Yes I know the Edge has a better processor and yes I am aware of the rest of the Edge's advantages over the Palm Vx.

The place where the Palm V really shines is in market share which equates to third-party peripherals. I personally love my Edge and having owned both of these machines (just a straight Palm V, none of that new school Vx stuff) for me the Edge is perfect. But then again I would love to have access to all the useful and bizarre attachments that are available for the V.

Just my 2.

The $299 price is much more reasonable than $399. If I was willing to spend $399 on a Handspring handheld, I would rather go with Prism than the Edge. Color is much more important than form-factor. Maybe thats because I am a student and generally either have a backpack and/or wear pants with big pockets. But at $299, I would be interested in getting it. Too bad this whole rumor started the day AFTER I got a Platinum. If I had not gotten the Platinum, I would have at least considered the Edge while before I didn't even consider it one bit.

My point was that, feature for feature, the edge smokes the hell of the Vx. It compares pretty closely to the m500 (whose sales are quite low as well).

That said, I think the edge should cost $300. Not because of features or quality, but because HS started out making everyone look bad WRT price, but has been creeping upward since then. It seems they've remembered their roots.

Glad someone brought this up... I was planning on calling HS up about the Platinum I bought a couple weeks ago to see if I could get 50 bucks back... do they offer a credit back on your credit card, or just a "store credit"? Also, is their time limit the same as their 30-day guarantee? Or is there any hope for my Edge I bought 5 months ago?

When I called Handspring they told me that they will credit the card that the purchase was made with. Obviously this only applies when you bought it from them, I would call and ask if they will be paying rebates for units sold retail from elsewhere.

And about the Vx vs. Edge, I acquiesce the Vx is a dog comparatively, the Edge does have it squarely beat under the hood. Honestly for me the best feature about the Edge is the cover. The main reason is that I need a PDA that can live with me not one that I have to live around; for instance I had, for a short while, an iPaq and man did that thing smoke. It did it all MP3, video, great built in apps, the works. Unfortunately it lacked the one thing I need most in my handheld, reliability. I needed something that would always start when I needed it, that could take a mild beating, and (for the vanity in all of me) looked nice.

And behold the Edge.

Question

YES----But did you purchase within the last 30 days?????

I would think that would influence the program.

I bought my Plat 2 months ago

My mistake for not posting that, yes I bought my Edge in the past 30 days. I am not sure but I am willing to bet that they will only honor the price drop for units still in the money back guarantee time.

Never hurts to call Handspring and find out though.

What do you mean, you turned it into Handspring, a third party retailer, a friend? Seems like a screaming good deal, when did you buy the Plat?

Compusa

I had a standard, got a Prism, couldn't see it in the sun (I am in Fla), and then got a Plat. As the prices of everything droped (i forgot to mention i had a replacement agrement)The 299 i paid became an Edge. Ya know what I mean? Those replacement thingies for 100 quid can actually pay off. I of course want a color edge.....

Doesn't everybody want a color Edge? I have a friend that did the same thing with a best buy service agreement. His graffitti quit working on his pltm after 3 months. So he returned it and got the Edge for 30 bucks more. Not bad upgrade.
