Actually, Marcosoft from the begining was just a reseller of the HandyGPS unit not its manufacturer. The HandGPS was/is suppose to come with Marcosoft's mapping software, that is how I think they got involved in selling it. The maker of the HandyGPS is Navicom and is the one that is setting its release date. Their web site is:
http://www.navicom.co.kr/products/handy/handyGPS.htm
I noticed about a week ago that Marcosoft had changed their web page from a HandyGPS specific web page to a more general GPS web page.
http://www.marcosoft.com/gps/default.stm
In it they make the following interesting statement:
"With the release of the
Handspring Visor and its Springboard expansion slot, several new "snap-on" GPS receiver modules will be
introduced and sold."
Does this mean that there are more Springboard GPS modules than just the HandyGPS module under development? I've checked the Handspring site and they still only list the Handy GPS module. But it does make one wonder.
I also find it interesting that the Marcosoft web site no longer mentions the HandyGPS by name. As they had been since November or so of 1999. I wonder if there has been a falling out, or they just got sick and tired of being stiffed by Navicom on the shipping date . I know Marcosoft was always taking the heat here at VisorCentral for the HandyGPS' shipping delays. Then again I may just have too much imagination and time .
