Angry

I have had it with this piece of crap!! HandSpring, what the hell are you doing!!

Lets start at the beginning. I buy my new Prism. Initialy I am very happy, although I am aware of the couple of known problems. The fading paint, the bad screen in daylight, and no flash.

Two weeks later, the power, datebook and up keys are all dead. I get my replacement, and see the same day that a couple of pixels are dead. Take it back, and in the store check the replacement, and again, some dead pixels. Finaly get one which seems to be fine. While I am in the store, I also buy the 8MB flash module(Version 1.2).

I rstored everything I had on my Vx onto the Prism. I loaded all my eBooks into the flash card. Yes, Yes, I know that I should not try and change them while on the flash.

Since that time, now about 3 weeks, the Prism has Hard reset itself 4 Times, and twice, when the flash card tried to compress, it gave a mem error, and corupted the card. In 3 weeks, I had to restore most of my data 6 time!!!! This is unacceptable! I never once reset my Vx. Where is the 100% compatibility?! I am not a new user, having owned the III, IIIx, V and Vx. I am not running evplugbase, I have installed the update for the prism. I am a power user, and all the apps that I now run on the prism, I use to run on the Vx, so the HS tech support suggestion of trying one app at a time, does not hold water with me. They all worked on Palm. I am ready to move away from HS.

Sorry for all the moaning, but I just needed a place to blow off some steam, and maybe my account will help some new user make up his mind.

Cheers

Richelo

Question

Bummer. Ditto on what creole said. I bought my Prism from Amazon.com when they first came available, and I've never had to return it. The only problem I had was the corrupting flash modules when they compacted. I've since learned to leave available space in internal memory, so the module has somewhere to temporarily house information while it's moving stuff around on the module. (If I'm full up, I delete my AvantGo channels before moving items from internal to flash - just in case it needs to compact.) Since then, I've compacted modules over a dozen times, with no crashes. And these were same ones that gave me problems before.

Thanks for the replies.

With regard to the flash module suggestion, I usualy have round 3MB free on the Prism. Should that not be enough? Do HS warn about this anywhere?

Thanks again for the help. I might be time to exchange BOTH parts......AGAIN...1 ;-(

Wow. If you have that much available space left, your problem might be a piece of software that doesn't agree with flash. Why don't you supply a list of programs/file types that you are moving to flash. The gang here might be able to tell you whether or not they have been able to successfully run those programs/files from flash.
