Module organizer!

You know, first we complained about too few modules. Now, I'm complaining about too many. There's the backup. There's the phone. There's the flash memory. There's...well, you get the idea!

So here's an obvious question to which I've yet to see a solution:

Can't someone make a case for storage of modules, something where we can safely toss it into a briefcase and have all our modules available? They are pretty small. And fragile. You don't want them to be crushed or harmed in your pocket or whatever.

I keep all of mine in my Grinder Gear Expedition case. All the pockets can fit all the modules I have in addition to my VPL. I have heard that some people use GameBoy cartridge cases to hold their modules but this is not practical for me because two of my modules are oversized (an eyemodule2 and the memplug).

I noticed at CompUSA that the same companies making PDA and CD cases are now making cases for CF and other memory chips- I bet some of them would suite the needs fo rthe modules pretty well.

You can also try camping supply stores- look for the organizer bags from Eagle Creek and other companies. They offer several bags with interior pouches, elastic loops, etc. for toiletries, first-aid...

Some 'pocket secretaries' or travel/neck wallets have a nice selection of pockets about the right size. Early Winters made a great one many years ago. I often use it for the smaller modules (eyemodule and below- the HandyGPS is a bit too thick for it)

Of course- you can find a good CD or similar hard case and run some Velcro along one or both interior sides, and use a dot of Velcro on your modules to hold them in place, or some Velcro straps to control and secure cords. The front and back of the case will have pockets- perfect for wipes, instructions, etc.

All good ideas, thanks. I was using a gameboy discarded casing for the compact flash module, but of course, a lot of modules like eyemodule and visorphone vary in size, too.

I went to my local Bartell's and found a cosmetic case for $7. Padded and with 2 zippered pockets, it holds modem & phone cord, batteries & modules.

I use an Altoid tin. It's big enough for 2 modules (one of which is an eyemodule) and a spare set of batteries. The inside is padded with thin neoprene from a craft store so that things don't rattle, and the batteries don't contact the sides. You are quite right, I am a dork.

I have also seen a couple of cases made by Case Logic for Game Boys. I've been fighting the urge since I rarely need to carry more modules than the tin can carry, but the game boy cases are pretty cheap.

You know what would be funny... A rambo style strap that goes across your chest with elastic loops along it to hold all of your modules. Just thinking about it gives me an image of a businessman with a Prism in his hand and two of these straps criss-crossing across his chest and modules tucked inside of all these loops.

I'm pretty sure they still do, it came out in the last 6 months. I would find it hard to believe that a product would be discontinued so soon.

You know, there was a brief period of time (30 seconds) that I actually considered getting one of those holster things to wear underneath my black jacket at work but decided it would be too geeky when I took the jacket off. Plus, I don't want to make people think I have a gun in there .

What I'm REALLY interested in is those new Dockers pants that have the hidden pockets for cell phones and pdas. I love my cargo pants cuz I can carry my cell phone, prism, and associated accesories easier. With the dockers pants I could look nice too and wear them at work. PLUS I'd have all my modules. I wear enough stuff on my belt at work anyways(Walkie Talkie, Leatherman, FlashLight, and sometimes a cell phone), so adding the hidden pockets would make me feel even more like Batman.

Nice Pants!

My gosh, Ashmed, I can see why you would consider a Rambo-style cross your heart ammo belt! Keep that belt tight, or you might develop a bad case of plumber pants.

I'm also looking forward to seeing those Dockers. One thing I noticed, though, is that they really don't show that guy moving around with the thigh pockets stuffed full of gizmos. Loaded cargo pants seem to swing a little while walking in my experience. That won't keep me from trying a pair out though.

Found the perfect answer was two Case Logic MP3 Player cases

One houses my Thinmodem(in a Game Boy plastic case) and associated cords/plugs. The other holds my flash SB's and spare batteries etc.
