This is my second Visor Deluxe (the first developed mechanical problems with the hardware buttons). I've had this one for at least 3 months now and it was working fine.

However, tonight, I changed the batteries (they were getting low) and then hotsynced. The hotsync failed during backup buddy's portion of the sync. When I later tried to go to the "memory" app, it caused a fatal exception and I had to use the reset button.

This has all happened suddenly with NO warning signs. Any ideas or suggestions?

More sadness

Since my last post, things have shown even worse signs. FireViewer crashed while playing a movie (FatalError), as did several other programs. I'm beginning to think something has gone wrong in the hardware.

I have half a mind to wipe the memory out and let backup buddy restore the contents. But, then again, Backup Buddy failed on my last sync, so I can't be sure the contents are good.

Of course, deep down, I fear this is a hardware problem -- deffective RAM or something. Are there any diagnostic utilities for the Visor -- such as the memory testers you find for x86's, etc.? If not, could someone create one?

hackmaster strikes again?

Sorry to bring this up, since it would seem obvious, but are you running any hacks that you weren't before? Afterburner and others can cause problems like that.

I ran AfterBurner when I first tried Liberty a couple of weeks ago, but I had no need for LIberty so I removed it and AfterBurner. Is it possible that AfterBurner cooked my Visor? I would think that I would've seen the effects immediately rather than weeks later.

no, shouldn't be a problem

I was merely suggesting that current usage of hacks would generate crashes. It would be very unusual for a problem to keep occurring after removing Hackmaster.

FIXED!

I tried a soft reset and a warm reset and neither work. However, a hard reset did the trick.

When I hotsynced, almost everything was restored. HotSync.exe crashed on my windows machine while AvantGo was syncing. I haven't been brave enough to try it again, but at least it was not the Visor itself that crashed this time.

I was able to successfully play Bubblet last night and show off a coupe of FireViewer videos.

Remove AvantGo and reinstall it.
