If so, I may get one from Japan directly... or anywhere else I can buy it.

I received an email confirming that mine shipped this morning (3/16) from PalmGearHQ. I have never dealt with this company before and not sure if they provide a tracking service or not. I shipped mine via US Priority mail, so it should be here by (CA) Monday or Tuesday (3/19). We will see.

PSWhat SmartMedia card readers are you people using on USB equipped Macs?

Thumbs down Sticks Out The Top

One of the drawbacks from the MemPlug (testers please correct me if I am wrong) is that with it installed in the SPB module and your Smart Media card inserted, you wont be able to snap on the Visors cover. According to the FAQs on MemPlugs site, the SMCs will stick up a bit so you pull it out. I think that its lame for that. My RIO takes the card in and has a spring to eject it. I wish that MemPlug had gone this route.

Perhaps I am wrong and you can still use the Visors coverwont know until I get the thing.

Question Are any smartmedia cards better than others?

I ordered the MemPlug and need to know if any smartmedia card brands are better than the others.

I've seen dane-elec, delkin, fujifilm, goldenram, Kingston, iomega, Lexar, memorex, Microtech, Olympus, periphereal enhancements, PNY, sansdisk, samsung, verbatim, viking, and toshiba so far.

Smile Visor cover fits on the front but not the back.

Visor cover fits on the front but not the back. This is OK for those of us that use belt clip type cases, but for those that use separate cases that rely on the "cover" built in the case, snapping on the back of the Visor, it won't work. I don't have my MemPlug yet but I'm assuming that it will be like the original MatchBookDrive module for Compact Flash cards.

Thanks for the input....I didnt even think about the cover on the front not effecting the SPB module which is in the rear....sorry I have only had my Visor for about 3 days now.

Thank you for supporting Memplug.
We will keep Memplug improving!

Thank YOU for both your excellent product (I just ordered one!) and for taking the time to read and respond to comments on this forum! I hope BlueNomad will add Memplug support for WordSmith (the best word processing app for PalmOS), because I have tons of large docs I'd love to offload from my Prism. Also, have you considered some kind of 'auto loader' capability similar to TRG's AutoCF functionality that automatically moves(copies?) apps from the Smartmedia card to the Visor when launched? I understand from reading the Kopsis CF Adapter mailing list that this is no easy task, but it sure would be a great feature!

For other 3rd party support, we has already put up the developers section to provide asistance and help. But maybe Memplug users can help in sending emails to those 3rd party to invite them to support Memplug.

For the autoMover, it is not an easy task. But we has already put it into the wish list of our future module update. Or maybe some 3rd party will do this job even faster than us.

Thanks again for supporting Memplug.
Memplug will keep Improving!

Well. noow that MemPlug peopel are on the boards.. (YEAH!)

Where's the edge?

I n the FAQ
"Q1 Which Visor model does MemPlug support?
A1 MemPlug supports all Visor handhelds available in the market, i.e., Visor Prism, Platinum, Deluxe and Solo.
"

probably other palces to. oh well..

GREAT PRODCUT! What I really like, is how indepth it is. How much software it includes etc. Seven though I HATE smartmedia, I might get this over CompactFlash. BECASEU of the features..

Memplug is springboard compatible! I can't imaging it would have any problem with edge.
In case of any imcompatibility, we will provide flash update for our Memplug users.

Thx. for supporting Memplug.

I think he was just joking.

The thing I don't get is how anyone could hate SmartMedia? Contrary to what the review said, SmartMedia is more popular. It is the primary type of removeable storage for MP3 players and I'd risk it to say its more popular in cameras too. Compact flash is more popular in Handheld circles, mainly because of its peripherals, but we have Springboards anyway. Add to that, SmartMedia is cheaper, consumes less power, and smaller.

Red face Confused?????

So I am kind of confused. Is the MemPlug just a bigger version of the backup module. Or is it like the flash modules that allow you to run programs off of it? To my knowledge, the ?Haiwakari? 16MB Flash module is the largest flash memory module out to date. Does anyone know differently? I could definitely use the space.

it allows you to use SmartMedia, programs & most databases are stored on the card when not in use. When you want to use them then you simply transfer them to the Visor's RAM with a FileMover app included on the Springboard. They currently have 2 software products, a picture viewer & a movie viewer, which do not require you to manually move the databases over and to you it looks the same as if you were storing those files on a normal Flash module. It also has a one-step backup option which is similar to the backup module.

PiDeveloper:
When the modifed version of CSpotRun comes out will it be released as normal software or as a Flash update to the MemPlug itself so we don't have to store it in RAM?

Me too!

I know it's wishful thinking but I hope "2-day service" leaves open the possibility I could have it by tomorrow(Saturday). Big thanks to kpochert for tipping off us VC members, because I had given up checking on its availability at PalmGear after several days of diligent monitoring.

If you're looking for the most pocketable and portable USB card readers around, check out the Zio line. They have ones for SmartMedia, CF, and MMC. Personally, I have my eye on the FlashPath Smartmedia Floppy Adapter as a lot of the computers I come across don't have USB ports or are running Win95 or NT , which don't support USB.

Talking memplug shipping

PalmGear notified me that my Memplug is SHipping!

I live in Canada, so I had to order Global Priority for $8 US.

I guess I'll see what that means as far as shipping time.
