I've noticed that clicking in the area between the calculator silkscreen button and the screen causes the calculator to come up. This is not true on other Palm models...

This causes the Visor to switch to calculator often, as the scroll bar buttons are often there...

Ditto here. I've hit both the calculator and the "home" button accidentally several times each in the last few days. The precision required to hit a roughly 1/16" down arrow is made even trickier when missing results in switching to a different program. Oh well, at least I've got mine, and this seems like something that someone could write a hack for to correct. Any programmers out there?

can u see that little boarder that goes around the screen? don't go past that! if u do, ur in the calculator or main menu area.
stay away from it and u will be fine. no need to worry about the calculator popping up.

I agree with the other two users and disagree with Techgod, although I understand his/her instructions. The whole point is that IT'S HARD to stay within that border when trying to press a down arrow. I friggin' hate the calendar by now due to hitting it multiple times and having to go through two taps to get back to where I was before the mistake!

I've noticed the problem too, but if you stay inside the dark green area (you can see it when the Visor is off) you will be ok. As for the scroll bars, there are always the buttons.

Does anyone know how to write hacks?

We should make a hack that completely disables the region where the calculator is at.. so when you press it, nothing happens. That sounds like it might not be that difficult, and would surely solve the problem (I could care less about losing one button.. it's worth it to not have to keep going back and forth while doing something else).

Anyone?

Sure. I had the same problem, but there is a simple fix that seems to work just fine for me. Go to Preferences and respecify the dimensions of your screen. When it asks you to touch the lower right hand point, be a little more gracious and touch the screen slightyly lower that point actually is. This way the visor thinks you have more screen area. Try it and let me know how it works.

Cheers,
Wes

Wes,
You're right. Setting the screen size, as you described, does solve the problem. Thanks.

BizEchilD,
It's better to just set the larger screen size, but I thought that you might like to know that there are hacks available which map the Calculator, Application and Find buttons into 4 parts. Each part (1/4 of circle) can be mapped to a different application. You could set the top half of the Calc app to null apps. The two hacks that you would need are App/DA Launcher and Calc Button Hack. These free hacks can be found here http://member.nifty.ne.jp/yamakado/da/

I just tried setting the size and yes it does work. You have to barely set it below the dot.. like 1/2 mm or so or else scrolling will be messed up, but it is an easy solution to an obvious oversight on handspring's part.

Maybe I'll try the hack later. Thanks.

Actually, if you re-digitize the screen opting to point to a space slightly lower and slightly more to the right of the center when asked to click the center, it fixes everything.

Do that and the bottom scroll button actually has a larger footprint and I doubt you'll accidentally get the calculator.

I have another workaround: SwitchHack.

It allows you to define a pen stroke which will switch to the last application you were running.

So any time I inadvertantly activate the calculator, one pen stroke takes me back to what I was doing!
