Question Geodiscovery

Is Geodiscovery still out of business? I was one of the first to buy, and I really really want this thing to work! Has anybody come up with a good peice of software that actually will work with the Geode?

They are as dead as a coffin nail... perhaps more so...

Angry geodiscovery.com appears down

Trying to see if I can expand my Geode's map collection, I found today (Feb 14 03) that the website has finally bit the dust.

This really sucks because even though I hope I can dig up the beta Geode 1.4 code to allow use of 3rd party software, I have no idea what map data format the Geode uses.

Anybody got any bright ideas, or is this thing really and truly dead with no company website?

Know of any geodiscovery.com data caches? Gads, how I wish I webstripped that stuff when I had the chance.

Datacaches:

google.com, search then click 'Cache' on the item

archive.org, Wayback Internnet Archive

If that snags, search and search and search. I hit a similar snafu in finding software/drivers for my Rio 300 MP3 player, but after searching for a couple hours I found a mirror site.

Old Blue Visor,

Hey CML! Thanks for the tips, I'll check that out. As it turns out, I also happen to have an old Rio PMP300 MP3 player. Would you by any chance be able to point me to the archive you found?

Danke Schoen!

Stupid me forgot to bookmark the archive but I've got it on my hard-drive.

What I have is RioPort Audio Manager 3.2.057, which is the last version of RioPort to support the PMP300 and it works in Windows XP, where I was getting hung up. This program can be a bugger, as it requires you to catalog all of your MP3's in its database, but its upside is that it takes my 128k MP3's and downsizes them to 64k for the player.

RioPort is available at:
http://users.adelphia.net/~loseby/rio32.exe
boy this thing took a long time to upload to my web server and will take a while to download, it is nearly 6 MB.
Download this now, as it will have to be deleted off the server when I need the space (which may be soon).

There is also another, much simpler program called Dreaming of Brazil which allows download of files to the PMP300 but won't convert the bitrate of the files. =(
It is located here:
http://www.parkverbot.org/harald/download/

Happy MP3ing. My old, beaten-up PMP300 now sits in the drawer, as I now have a RioVolt SP150 MP3-CD player which I love =) Yes it's much bigger but 11 hours of music per CD can't be beat.

Thumbs up Bear and CML - Thanks!

Bear - I checked out Daniel's link & PayPal site, but haven't
ordered the 3CDs yet. Since this is probably my last chance
to keep the Geode somewhat active I'll probably drop the $12.
Have you gotten the CDs and if so, are they worth it?

CML - Downloaded the Rio software from your site, so go ahead
and make room if you need it. I also got the Dreaming Of Brazil
application and source code for experimentation.

I still use my PMP300 for working out. I find that the static
memory MP3 players are much better suited against vibration
and moisture than MP3 CD or hard drive players. I also have
a portable MP3 CD player and it is great in its own way, just
not for carrying around on my waist, getting pounded during
a run.

Anyway, thanks again you guys. I definitely appreciate your
help!

Old Blue Visor -

If your Geode is working okay I think the 3 CDs are worth it. I downloaded all the files when Geodiscovery was still in business. Hard to beat for $12. To make the data files even more useful check out this site: http://web2.airmail.net/jbray48/. Look under Geode found on the left margin of the web site window. This fellow had created a very useful HTML viewer program that can look at the map data an compile a mosaic of the Gif files to create a visual map using Internet Explorer. When you click on a particular square it sets up for hotsinking your Palm.
