Angry stylus

I recently bought an Edge from Handspring. I am very satisfied with the device, but not with stylus attachment to the device. If you shake the Edge with the stylus inserted you can hear an annoying little metal noise, like if the stylus was not correctly inserted...I know this is not a real device failure, but a design failure. I'm just curious if someone is experiencing the same problem...

Ah...the infamous stylus rattle. I only had 1 device out of 5 that didn't.

solution:

take a *tiny* piece of tissue, and ball it up or fold it up and shove it down the stylus silo (the TOP part, not the silver bottom part). you'll have to try a couple times to get it crushed down and small enough to get the stylus locking but when you do, you'll have an absolutely rattle free edge.

It'd dead easy to take out too and it doesn't fall out unless you're prying at it.

Try it. It works great.

Plus it's practically invisible on a silver edge. It'll probably be noticeable on the darkblue plastic of the blue and red edge...

Lightbulb Thanks

Thanks for the tip. Finally, I`ve used a little piece of very thin transparent plastic (the one used to cover aliments, food,...). The tip works well and it is not noticeable! But, when I was doing the job, my wife asked me why I was "repairing" a 399$ brand new high-tech device with a cheap transparent paper designed to protect aliments...:-)
Maybe she was right, and Handspring has to improve the design of the Edge...
By the other way, I discovered that the design of the Edge has been made by another company, not Handspring itself. Take a look at www.ideo.com

IDEO is an awesome company.

Not only did they design the edge, they designed the original visor series, and also designed the palm V series.

I wish i worked for them...

Arrow

A small piece of screen protector material -- (perhaps two or three, depending on amount of slack)shoved into the LOWER section of the
stylus attachment -- where the point sets, will easily stop the rattle. This is then easy to remove if and when required. The plastic cusions and preloads the stylus against the spring lock at the top of the retaining mechanism. Worked great for me --
