I would like to start off by saying that reading the posts here gave me all the ammo I needed to get this combination, along with a MarkSpace modem cable working together.

For the past month I have been fighting this combinantion trying to get my Samsung to dial, anywhere! I use the phone with PhoneSync on the PC and it has worked fine. I am able to transfer phone numbers from Lotus Notes/Outlook to the Samsung and back without retyping on the terrible phone keypad.

Every time I tryed to get it to dial data, the phone would not respond, Since my PC and laptop were both W2K I could not install the Sprint connectivity kit and use their diagnostic tool. Finally a trip to the sprint store and I was able to confirm that there really was a problem. It would not dial there either. we looked at hardware and software revisions and determined an upgrade was in order. Here are the original and new settings:

3500: 10009 3500: 10010
SW: 3500.SI11 SW: 3500.TG10
HW: 3500.08Q HW: 3500.08Q

Despite what Sprint people might tell you, almost all Sprint stores (with the exception of RS) can perform a phone software upgrade while you wait.

We tested the upgraded phone and it seemed to work. I ordered my MarkSpace cable, and patiently waited for it to arrive. Thirty seconds after it arrived at my door, I had it unpacked and was trying it out. I could not get it to work. After reading what seemed to be hundreds of messages I realized the following settings were necessary under Modem preferences to get it to work:

Modem Standard
Speed 19,200 bps
Speaker Off
Flow Ctl Off
Country Other
String AT&FX4

Still no go, I remembered I still had the data cable to my wife's Denso Touchpoint. Hooked it up, turned it on, fired up the Visor, launched AvantGo went to connect channel and I was connected. The following morning (today) I am off to the Sprint store to test my theory that I have a defective phone. Asked for the demo 3500 hooked it up and was surfing in seconds. Took there 8500 and had the same results. Still not taking my word for it and seeing it for themselves, I was asked to call Sprint Web Helpdesk. The 1st level tech did not even want to start diagnosing once I mentioned I was using a visor. The second level tech after asking about the symptoms, simply replied: "This is a known issue with the 3500, some will connect and others won't." I restrained myself realizing I was talking to an underpaid technician who really didn't give a damn. He suggested I return the phone for a replacement. Upon hearing the diagnosis the Sprint rep gave me a white bubble envelope a pre-printed UPS Blue form and an instruction sheet, stating that I should receive my new phone in a day or two.

To make a long story longer. The bottom line is, if you are having connectivity problems with your visor and Samsung 3500's (possibly other models also) don't fight it, return it for another model.

Now if you have stayed with this story this long, I have a question for you: The sprint dialer uses #WEB (I believe the password is WEB) as the phone number for the built in browser, since I am already paying for this service can I set up a Visor network choice using the same number and password to browse Sprint ISP instaed of calling mine?

Thanks a bunch
Bud
