virus is the wrong word in the subject line, but oh well...

(background info: left bad batteries in Visor that died causing a loss of data- lost info and programs that werent recovered during hot sync)

So i tried to dump my launch em prgram, but it wouldnt let me. I had used launch em (the newer one that should be registered) for a few months, and forgot really what the normal Palm OS "desktop" looked like.

Anyways, I started to notice that mine didnt look like normal. Thru some weird act of fate, i had this really stripped down desktop. At the bottom, from left to rifht, where the time, a battery meter, and up and down arrows (to scroll). It all kinda fit nicely. The time was a normal size, and the battery was a bit longer lengthwise, and the scroll buttons were up and down triangles.
The upper, left, right, and bottom of the remaining info (i.e. immediately top of the time, battery, buttons) were 4 lines that boxed the screen, and whatever apps i had left where neatly placed in the boxed in the normal 3x4 grid.
If i hit menu, nothing would happen, and if i hit the home button, id get the preferences screen. I could really access any menus's or anything cuz the menu key didnt work and ther e was no drop dwon box anywhere.

Weird. it looked too spiffy. i am guessing maybe its an old old version of palm OS that manifested itself.

Can anyone who has had a palm pilot (orig) or pro or whatever tell me if this is a correct guess? that i had some old version of palm OS running on my visor?

strange stuff. It also took me about 10 tries to hard rset the visor (seriously) and when i aborted a hotsync (because it was trying to connect to avant go, and it was no longer on my visor) it told be to "click below for a soft reset" and then gave me this weird desktop look again.

anyone have an idea whats going on?

strange. in this weird OS view, there was a icon to go back to APPLCIATIONS. so when i click on that , i get the normal view, but when i delete everything using my menu key --> delete comand, my home button is still mapped to switching me back to this werid view.

After a hard reset, syncnig just brings it back again.

My Visor did the SAME EXACT thing. Except it came that way,I just always assumed that is the way it is supposed to be, being as it was my first PDA. So mine had some kind of fluke?

I was reading the read me file for the launch em program, and i think that my condition was caused by deleting it without first unchecking the "always use launchem" box before doing it.

i think that was it.

It happened to me too. I think the problem is that you didn't unchceck the option to "always use" the app launcher. Try to:

1) do a soft reset, and then
2) reinstall the latest version of the product
3) Uninstall it again.

It worked for me that way
