Question

Okay, I come from work at 11:00 today, tons of paperwork due, and needed the peace and quiet to get it
done by tomorrow. No sooner do I sit down and at 11:15 the door bell rings - FED-EX with my BVD!!!(looks like I'll be up all night). Anyway, did all the setup stuff, and get the old "you computer did not hotsynch could not establish connection.." message. Changed serial ports, rebooted, same results. This is my initial attempt to hotsynch. Anybody lend a clue?? I need it.
Thanks!!

I found my downfall. To merely hotsynch, you have to be on-line. I know, many of you are probably rolling your eyes, but hey, I'm a newbee to this. Anyway, I have a ton of stuff to do now

You don't mean online as in "on the Internet" do you, because I am sure that is not the case. Unless you are trying to do the online registration or something.

I guess whatever works for you, but know that you should be able to Hotsync without being logged into an ISP or anything.

Enjoy the Visor,

Actually, I did find it only working for me when I was on my ISP. This gave me the impression that this was the way it worked, after about 10 tries while not on-line unsuccessful. Good to know this is not a requirement. Like you said..."whatever works huh?"

Scout:

After you discover Avantgo, you'll find that you will always want to be online when you HotSync anyway. In case you don't know, Avantgo is a free offline web browser that allows you to download "channels" (handheld versions of web pages) to your Visor whenever you HotSync. It's quite addictive.

In fact, when you HotSync with AvantGo on your Visor, it'll dial-up the Internet anyway to look for updated web pages, so you might as well get online first. I haven't HotSynced offline in 3 months.

Have fun. BTW, get it at www.avantgo.com

Scout,

You might want to play with "adding" another port via your Control Panel. It sounds like there's something screwy with how your system is turning on your serial port, if it only works when the modem is in use.

I seem to remember hearing something about how ports 1 and 3 are actually the same physical port on your system, and ports 2 and 4 are the same. Try adding a third or fourth serial port and syncing again.

Just some thoughts...
