Exclamation

I just wrote an article following up on Handspring's announcement that it's licensed Qualcomm's CDMA technology. I talked to a spokesman at Handspring, and getting any concrete information from him was, as usual, like pulling teeth. But he utter one juicy tidbit: "We think that, as soon as this year, people will be using Visors as telephones."

So I really am starting to believe that Handspring will release a cell phone module by the end of the year.

Cool news! last winter i posted a link i found to an australian site which showed somebody from Handspring demonstrating the cell phone module on an Australian ABC television show...the link doesn't work anymore. I wonder if they had the foundation set up and were just setting up agreements with a communications company (Qualcomm).

On another note: We all know what you look like now! followed the link from the bottom of your story!

My Prediction (same one I've had for half a year now):

Handspring will release a Palm V-sized visor, and a Cellphone Springboard in time for Christmas.

Awesome news Gameboy! I can't wait!

THAT is the springboard profile i'm talking about!!! like the OmniSky for the PalmV ...why...oh WHY? can't other module makers do something like this instead of having a HUGE plastic tower hanging off the top of my visor? Like the Glenayre????? WHY??

That is really cool matty...let us know as soon as you hear anything!

Found this on the site:

quote:

GSM Spezifikation

GSM software compliant version 07.05 and 07.07
Dual Band 900Mhz und 1800Mhz for the European market and a PCS version for the US market

what does that last bit say???!?!?!?!?!?!

'for the US market'!!!!!!!!!

and the front of the website says '13 days until we launch our GPS/GSM module'!!!!!

YES!

Unhappy

Found an article about the Tr@ycom GPS and handy module on the telamarkt homepage. It is written in german and it says that this module will cost about 2400 german marks -- this will be around 1200 US$ tax included.
Wow -- do they put gold around it???
This sounds like a very high priced solution. But lets wait and see -- 12 more days to go.
