HS loosing ground

the new neo and pro don�t touch me. it seems hs has now four similar products and the prism. explain the tech differences between the edge/neo/platinum/pro ... and compare this models with other palm handhelds it seems HS is loosing more and more ...

the m505 touchs me alot. this is a well designed, small and fast organizer. even the sd/mmc card slot is much more functional than the springboard.

i love my prism, but HS has to built a really exciting new product.

Should i have to buy an organizer as a newbie today, i would purchase the m505.

If I were a newbie purchasing a pda, I'd go with either the neo or the pro, much as I went with the VDX. IMHO, the point is that HS intends for the neo and pro to replace the Visor/VDX/Plat.

I think that even a newbie would want a color PDA... Newbies are often attracted by what the PDA's look like. Only a newbie on a tight budget would consider one of these models. If anyone does any research as to how much accessories and springboards cost, they would soon realize that saving $100-200 (by buying a monochrome PDA) is not a good idea in the long term.

I wish I could justify buying myself, a non-newbie, a color PDA. I am currently learning to play golf--for my first set of clubs, I went with the set from Play It Again Sports, and didn't jump right to the Big Berthas.

The problem with your statement is you do not know what the newbie is going to do with their PDA. There are time when it would be nice, like when I want to play a game, but for the most part I do not need color and trying to justify an extra $150 - $200 is difficult.

And there are a lot of people on tight budgets who only need a basic PDA. I do not know what HS's target is, but this may the area they are shooting for. Remember that there are some very sucessful businesses who cater to the lower end. I would much rather own a McDonalds than an upscale french resturaunt, and I would rather have stock in WalMart that Neiman's.

perhaps you�re right. but fact is, color is more fun. i think you don�t really need a high res display. and i don�t want to play movies an my prism. but i love reading my avantgos at night and this is really better on a color device. and the option to turn on my backlight when i need it is nice .... think at batterie life.

lets make a poll: i need my visor for ....

i think hs has to develop a useful device, not such an overloaded brick like an ipaq with most apps you don�t need.

what do you guys think of this:

I was a newbie on a tight budget. Now I'm a non-newbie on a tight budget. I have yet to see the difference. BTW because of my opinion I got on eof my dad's coworkers to get a Vdx over a Palm m100

I know several people who have purchased color units who wouldn't if they had it to do all over again. Personally, I think they're nuts, but.......<g>

I have been using Palm OS devices since the original PalmPilot, and I have yet to buy a color device. Reason: it adds nothing useful to the functionality of the device. If I want to play a game, I will take out my Gameboy Advanced. In fact, the only really meaningful uses I can see for a color PDA, all require a higher resolution than any of the ones currently on the market. The only use I (as a graphic professional) can see for a portable color device is for onsite demonstrations, conceptualizations, or proofing, and all of these really require at least 200DPI, and a color correct display to be useful. Features that none of the current devices offer. It would be neat to see maps in full color with my GPS module, but would it make it easier to navigate? Not really. I don't really see what the big deal is about color. I am certainly not excited enough about color to pay an extra $200, and get a third the battery life, just for the privilege of only being able to use my PDA in certain lighting situations! I am willing to put up with odd lighting restrictions on my Gameboy, only because it cost less than the titanium case for my Visor, it is certainly not something I am willing to pay extra for.

I think that it is a shame that there is so much pressure on companies to produce all color units, just to stay in the "cool" category. The Sony unit is the first one I have seen that even comes close to doing color correctly, and it still has a ways to go. PDAs are most useful for text data entry and storage. and for that main purpose color is not really advantageous. Sure, once you have color you can find things to do with it like keep pictures of your family, or play games, but these are things that would be better accomplished with a wallet-sized print, and a pocket game system.

newbie

I'm a newbie on a limited budget (student) and I bought, and enojy the Neo. I think it is a good purchase for anyone on a budget. The color PDAs still seem insanly expensive for what you get...I mean it takes more battery and processor power, it's also harder on the eyes for long periods of time, and one other reason I can't remember at this point. Sure new technologies are coming out but I finally ran out of patience. I shall definitly think of upgrading should a product like people are dreaming about come out, but until then I am more than happy with my Visor Neo
