In September, I bought the 8 meg Backup Module from Bureau en Gros (Office Depot here in Quebec, Canada). The unit wouldn't restore from backup, so I returned it, and had it replaced. No problems, I thought, until...

at the end of November I get a phone call from a friend, who was checking out the new Visor Prism at this same store. All the contents of my Visor (er, make that my life) were on public display! My daily journal, banking info.... everything.

It sounds too outrageous/nightmarish to be true. Unfortunately it isn't.

So, if your Backup Module seems to not work, do yourself a favour and don't exchange it (especially at Bureau en Gros). Burn it, destroy it, and spend the money on a new one.

The worst part is Bureau en Gros 'can't find' the original module, so my life is floating out there somewhere...

how about this

Backup your data with Backupbuddy, do a hard reset, use the backup module to backup your blank databases, then restore with backup buddy.

The BackupBuddy option would work. However, since not everyone uses it, it's not really a viable one, and it wouldn't do any good for a lost or stolen module.

What makes sense to me is that the Backup Module needs a security feature, like a password. This way, a Restore (and even a Backup) could not be done without entering it. A Delete Contents command would be nice, too. Maybe I'll suggest it to Handspring...

I think you should be able to start backing up then hit cancel. Then the backup isn't good anymore.

I haven't tested this theory.
