Startac/Cingular ...go wireless????

hi everyone...I am having a hell of a time getting wireless with my Visor Deluxe. I have a the startac 8789 on the cingular network. I purchased the cable from gomadic to connect the two to find out that Cingular doesn't have data access. Needless to say the cable did not work. Is there any way at all that I can get wireless without have to get a new plan or anything like that?? Does anyone know of a way to buy a modem for the Deluxe and have it dial up through my startac? Anything info at all would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I'm not sure about cables for this set up. I use a VP on Cingular and they DO have data service. What I have is called Internet Express for $6.99. Been on the net since 8-01 like this.Do need your own ISP.

Do you know if I can purchase the VP and have it used on my Cingular service now? Also does all of the locations of Cingular have the service for the VP...I am in in the Orlando area.

Go to www.cingular.com and put in your zip code.This is the easy way to find the local services. Wireless Internet in the data section is what you are looking for.
The VP is just 1 more GSM phone. You can swap the SIM card to ANY GSM phone. All you need is to get the VP.

when you are on the VP, does it draw batteyr from the Visor itself or does it only use its own battery power? Also, does the phone still ring if the Visor is Off?

To quote Handspring from their FAQs regarding the Visorphone...

Q: Does VisorPhone draw battery life from Visor?

A: The GSM radio in the VisorPhone gets its power from the Lithium Ion battery attached to the VisorPhone module. However, a small amount of Visor battery power is used to supply the memory which stores all the VisorPhone software. This design lets you can run the Phone and SMS Text Messaging applications even when the VisorPhone is turned off.

The relatively large battery on the VP is its downside. It sticks out like sore thumb. Everything else is pretty thin and compact. In my opinion, if battery technology progressed as fast as PDAs in terms of capacity/size, perhaps the VP battery would've been thinner making the Visor+VP combo much more popular.

Anyway, yes, the VP does ring when the handheld is off, but doesn't when the VP is off, obviously
