When I enter symbols like ( * & etc. with a space before them, the preceding space is automatically deleted and a trailing space inserted. (I may have the exact details wrong here, but you get the idea). Does anyone have any clue what is happening here? This did not always happen, so it must be some app I added, but cannot figure it out. Any one with any ideas on what is doing this and how to fix it?

I never encounter such problem. Check the Hacks you installed. Maybe something related to autocorrect, spellcheck, etc.
