Just edited the group page by adding the word Edge to the list of PDA's available. We now have 51 people (though two have yet to send any units back) with nearly 8000 units total.

Will watch Contact tonight in honor of all our work.

help with BaAlien

I loaded this app onto my Prism, but it doesn't do a thing. I wanted to delete the app, but I can't find BaAlien on my list. Then I went to my PC to see what the file name was that I loaded, and I noticed it was a PQA file, which I know nothing about.

Can anyone tell me what the file name is so I can delete it?

Just finished my 700th unit.

What that means is that I've temporarily suspended sending more units until I've crunched some Genome@Home units.

What this means is that you can all catch up to my rather incredible achievement.

Yes... an incredible achievment!!!

As I approach 300 (hopefully tomorrow), my goal is to break into the top 10. After that, I'll turn off the background processing and start to enjoy the power of my 1ghz Athlon!

I stopped crunching on my G4 a couple months ago and there was some error on th G3 so I stopped that too. I think I've done enough alien research with 450+ units.

Just re-edited the official page over at the Berkeley site. I clicked all the links some people had for their names, and whoever is Helen5 needs to provide a new link -- it doesn't connect.

A few of people joined but haven't sent back any results.

SETI@Home II is coming; the hint is that it'll require lotsa crunching power like that of Genome@Home.

Fishscaler: Is there anyway to add to the page what our team standing is within the teams?

My P4 is now crunching for Cancer.

My 2 other PCs (pent3 600 and 450) are still looking for ET. Or lack there of.

Any chance there's a new link for S@H? I stopped a while back in favor of the way-geeky OGR project and want to know if I'm still in the top 10 even after quitting...

It seems that the SETI servers are down today. They apparently had some hackers last weekend so maybe they're doing some housekeeping.

quote:
May 30 SETI@home, the program that searches through radio data for signs of extraterrestrial intelligence, was harnessed by a different breed of alien invaders, the projects leaders said Wednesday. Pranksters tapped into the multimillion-user database, made off with tens of thousands of e-mail addresses, then launched a spam attack over Memorial Day weekend. SETI@home says it has sealed the biggest security gap.

THE INCIDENT pointed up the potential pitfalls of distributed computing a growing trend in which thousands or millions of computers are enlisted over the Internet to focus on problems that require a huge amount of processing power. SETI@home ranks as the worlds largest experiment in the field, with 3.1 million users around the world.
The projects servers in Berkeley, Calif., carve up radio data from the worlds largest radio dish, the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico, and send the work units to volunteers over the Internet for analysis. When a computer finishes a work unit, it sends the results back to Berkeley with a user ID number and the servers send out a new unit, plus the volunteers e-mail address and usage statistics.
Thats where the invaders stepped in, project director David Anderson told MSNBC.com.
What these hackers did is, they figured out that exchange, he said. The users apparently sent a range of ID numbers to the servers and got back information about other volunteers who were linked to those numbers. Anderson estimates that as many as 50,000 e-mail addresses were harvested from early volunteers in the 2-year-old effort.
Over the long weekend, hundreds or thousands of users received somewhat illiterate e-mails from the invaders, Anderson said. Heres an example, received by MSNBC.com from a d. white:

Dear Seti@home user.
Seti@home Webpage been exploited. We have the intire user database as well all your information about you.
SEE FOR YOURSELF.
have nice day.

Looks like you've been away too long... you're currently 25th.

The SETI site seems to be back up. At least I'm able to view the Visor page.

I've joined up! Had been thinking about using SETI@home for some, just found this page and was reminded to get started. Thanks, Fishscaler!

I'm using a 450mHz G4.

Yeah? Well, I've still got the shortest per-unit time! Let's see everyone's G3 beat an Intel!

Unhappy Crunched unit doesn't show up on website

I just joined up a week ago, and finished crunching my first unit a couple of days ago, but it still doesn't show up on the website.
What's up with that?
