Sometimes, I'll look down at my VDX and notice that it's still powered on, even though I haven't touched it for ten minutes or more.

I have not exhaustively tested things yet, but doing a soft reset makes this go away. Switching apps and turning it off and on manually doesn't help.

Any ideas? I'm hoping somebody else had the problem and was able to figure out a conflict or something.

I have too many apps to list them all, but here are the hacks I run via X-Master:

CorrectHack HACK- (HACK)
Crash - (HACK)
VirtualKB - (HACK)
DateFormatHack - (HACK)
FindIgnore Hack - (HACK)
LaunchMenu - (HACK)
Menu Cmd - (HACK)
McPhling - (HACK)
PopCalc - (HACK)
PopNote - (HACK)
PopToDo - (HACK)
ClockPop - (HACK)
TimeOnContrast - (HACK)
EVEditHack - (HACK)
Invert Hack - (HACK)

Here are some of the main apps I use a lot:

AvantGo
DateBk4
Commander
DiddleBug
X-Master
Keyboard
LauncherIII
Bonsai
Timesheet
Yaps

Thank you reading...

I just saw this today, myself, and came here looking for help.
If a soft reset fixes it, fantastic.

As for what causes it ...

I'm not using any hacks. I haven't installed anything new since the last time I was aware auto-off was working.

Last night I used my Stowaway to take some notes. Auto-off was working fine while it was in use.
I made sure to get out of the app I was in (WordSmith) and turn the VDx off before "unplugging" the keyboard, so that I could avoid having to do a soft reset. Today, auto-off's not working. (of course, I had it on right before commuting for an hour ... there go my batteries)

I'm guessing that the keyboard might have something to do with it?

I too have a Stowaway. I am using the 1.5 driver. I'll start tracking to see if the keyboard use is triggering the issue (I don't use the keyboard everyday...).

I have driver v 1.5 as well; thanks for pointing that out.
Yesterday was also the first time I used my Stowaway since installing the new driver (about 3-4 wks ago).

Best I can determine, it's your Keyboard app that's messing with AutoOff. I've taken to only enabling Keyboard when I'm going to use it. If Keyboard is disabled, AutoOff seems to work fine.

And watch out if you have Keyboard enabled and you're using a SoundsGood. Visor turns on when the tracks change. Then it doesn't turn off again until you notice it's on...

I used my Stowaway today for a couple hours, and did a hotsync shortly afterwards, and did not have an auto-off problem. (so far.) I just "tested" it a few moments ago and it turned itself off after three minutes (my setting).
I did not disable the keyboard driver.

I'm having intermittent problems with auto off, but I can't seem to replicate it under controlled conditions... but I do know that it didn't start happening until I started using the keyboard.

Angry It's the 1.5 Driver!

I just started using the v1.5 as well, and I've got hacks on hacks on DAs on Silkyboard, etc. etc, and haven't had problems with the auto-off before.

Auto-off only functions now when the Visor is in the keyboard. Also, I've had to take care to turn off the Visor when pulling it outta of the keyboard, or else I get weird things...like the hard-reset which just happened in mid-sync and I'm now restoring from.

I realize that having a lot of hacks is supposed to make your Visor unstable, but I've never had any problems until last night, when I got my Stowaway...

I had this trouble when I bought my stowaway about a year ago. It IS IS IS IS IS the keyboard driver. I lost all of my data three times before I figured it out. You MUST disable the keyboard after you use it, I always soft reset also. It will reactivate itself automatically when you plug in the keyboard (if you boot the visor with the keyboard plugged in and have it off when it is attached). When the driver has everything fouled up you will notice you cannot make uppercase letters with grafitti. Stowaway is great hardware but the software is terrible!!!

The Freeware program "Always On" seems to fix this problem. At least with Keyboard 1.5.1
