Question How long has your EDGE Battery lasted?

Hi All-

I'm planning on taking a trip internationally, and I got a vdx because it has AAA batteries. However, I want to bring my edge for backups, and for the occasional looking up numbers, etc.

How long has the battery lasted, in reality, with minimal use?

I'll be gone for 6 weeks, but i'd like to see if I can go w/o bringing a charger of some sort.

Thanks

BTW, the handspring website said it lasts 1 month.... how realistic is this?

well, it all depends on your usage. The Edge had the longest battery life of any PDA I've owned. With fairly light use, you theoretically could make it 6 weeks, but I don't like your chances.

You should contact Rick at www.visorsolutions.com
He has some AAA and AA recharging solutions for the Edge that look quite nice. That would be any easy way to stay charged on the road.

from my experience, the visor edge lasts only ~10-15 hours of uptime (before I got the warning message). This is not a lot because in comparison, my VDX with alkalines lasts ~20 hours uptime. When I had NIMH batteries in the VDX, it'd last ~10 hours (which makes sense since NIMH's were approx. half the capacity as regular alkalines).

i tracked usage with the utility called Uptime (too lazy to put a link right now).

So for 6 weeks, I'd suggest you bring the charger. I'd turn on my palm probably 1 hour a day on average. I suppose if you turn it on for only 15 minutes a day, you'd have 40 days of usage. Which is what handspring says is ~"one month". You'll be cutting it close too.

Older palms had a suggested 3 month battery life. which makes sense if you consider my VDX with alkalines. 20 hours of uptime with 15 minutes of usage a day gives 80 days, which is close to 3 months.

Anyways, enough guestimation. I say you should bring the charger.

If you really want to bring the Edge, I wouldn't go without the charger, but you could get one of the power converter kits for use in different countries, or tote the VDx and lots of AAA batteries.
