Network dialer hack available?

Though GSM data service in my area appears to be spotty, on occasion I've been able to connect if I keep redialing - sometims for many many minutes on end. I'm wondering if there'sa hack out there that will enable me to change the number of times the software automatically redials - from one time to whatever I choose.

Any leads appreciated.
