Sigh. Innogear / MiniJam woes.
So, despite the high number of Innogear haters on these boards, I bought a MiniJam on eBay the other day. The auctioned module didn't come with an MMC card so I picked up a card on my way to work today. After applying the firmware/software update from the website, I was able to reformat the card (it took about 7876474 years. Well, ok, maybe about 20 minutes) and transfer some files onto it. The file transfer speed (via USB on a Mac PowerBook) seemed pretty tolerable to me, since I mostly just like to swap out one or two songs at a time for an ever-rotating playlist.
So. I had my playlist ready. I plugged in my headphones (a nice Sony pair which I use with all my devices) and hit play. And was disgusted! The sound quality was terrible -- muddy, filled with artefacts and "watery" noises, and it skipped constantly (sound dropped out every 3 seconds). I tried mp3s at various bitrates (128, 160, 192, 256) and they were all equally poor. When played through my PowerBook into the same set of headphones, the sound was perfect.
So I called tech support. After waiting on hold for 20 minutes (I called at 5:30pm so that's no really so bad), I explained my problem. The guy at Innogear didn't really know what was up, until I mentioned that I had a Memorex card. Surprise, they don't support Memorex cards. He mentioned Innogear's own brand, Lexar, and one other brand which I forget. Sigh. So it's back to the store to try to return the Memorex card. Geez.
Buyers beware!
