P900 dial pad exchanged for thumboard!
By: mgauss @ 06:11 AM
I understand the dial pad in the p900 sony can be removed.
Won't somebody come up with a replacement thumboard? After all the keys are electrical, so a little macro can do the keypad work!
The p900 is lighter than the 600!
Sony vs. Palm

Brilliant thought! Your idea of replacing the flip is awesome. Hopefully Sony is already working on it.
Eventually Sony/Symbian vs. Treo/PalmOS vs. Blackberry (maybe)will be the battleground for smartphone supremacy. Everyone else is a distant second. Consumers will be the winners.

If the P900 had a flip QWERTY keyboard, I wouldn't even think twice about picking one up. The keyboard is probably the *only* reason I'm interested in the Treo600... brand\OS loyalty is not an issue.
Good idea, but no thanks.

I would not want to give up 75% of my screen real estate for a keyboard. The number pad is acceptable only because you don't need much screen when dialing a phone number

I'm not suggesting making the flip larger -- even a microscopic QWERTY keyboard beats using the screen keyboard, IMO. Besides, why not have a recessed keyboard on the underside of the flip? That way you can use it while it's open.
When did this site become Sony Ericsson Central?

It's sad to see so many trolls patrolling under this site. Between Microsoft trolls, Symbian trolls and stock market trolls it's starting to get repetitive. Before posting here, please ask yourself if what you have to say is relevant to www.treocentral.com. If it isn't, keep it to yourself, or post it somewhere else.

oh hush... stop being so picky about things. Open your eyes to alternatives other than handspring.
as to the keypad, if they can add a qwerty keyboard to the BACK of the existing keypad, it would be cool. all you'd have to do is flip the pad open for a full keyboard!

Switch the removable numeric keypad with a removable thumbboard?! Hmm...that does sound interesting...but they would have to switch that OS too...

Are they? in a simular model I played with the keys were mechanical and pressed the touchscreen below it...
Eitherway a tumbpad keyboard would be a great idea...

Brilliant, mgauss. I'd be all over it -not that I won't be anyway.
