NiMH batteries

Hello,

I installed two rechargable AAA NiMH batteries in my Visor de Luxe. Since the Palm OS 3.1H OS doesn't recognize NiMH, but only alkaline, rechargable alkaline and NiCad, I wonder which one of these would be the best alternative setting when using NiMH batteries? As far as I know there's no or easy way to manually change the voltage, treshold and critical settings to the NiMH battery type.

I don't have the answer to your question in particular but I do have an alternative answer for you. There is a hack called Battery Meter Hack that works with X-Master or Hackmaster. I use it with my VDx and NiMH batteries. It allows you to change to this battery type and it shows a percentage of usage if you prefer (I do!). The best part about it...it's FREE.

NiCad's have a similar power profile to NiMH's, so using that setting works on a VDX.

Thanks for the fast replies everybody!
I'll try Marks suggestion of the NiCad setting first and if that doesn't do the trick, I'll try Battery Hack instead.
I wonder how long my NiMH's will last (average user) especially with a MemPlug CF adapter installed (there are some horror stories about the adapters energy drain going around...)

The meter is almost useless for me. I have NiMH, and it just stays full until it's got one day left, then it rapidly starts to decline. Any hack that solves this problem?

I have been using NiMH for a couple of months now with no problems other than the inherent limitations they have. I use the NiCad setting. Looking at Runtime (you are using Runtime, aren't you?) I'm getting about 9 - 10 days, 5 - 6 hours run time per charge. That is the inherent limitation...NiMH's don't last long per charge; they also drain somewhat without any use. That explains the rapid decline in the meter...pretty much once the meter starts going down I put in a new set. So what, it's just a new charge, not another $2 worth of batteries.

One of my coworkers uses rechargeable alkalines...he gets longer runtime per charge, but they can only be recharged about half as many times. Six of one, half a dozen of another....
