does it matter?

I've come to think that this whole mp3 debate as well as spingboard modules in general, really comes down to your lifestyle and where you place your values. If price value is a really high placement in your system, your not very happy in general with anything. New technology is extremely bad at delivering "price value".

As far as the MP3 thing goes, if 64MB is enough for you and you you are bugged-out by the module sticking out side the lines then SoundGood is for you.

If you want expandability then minijam is the right answer.

If you want to look like your wearing batman's utility belt everywhere you go, then you buy a stand alone.

Soundsgood

I've used both. I tried the MiniJam first, then sent it back for a refund. Perhaps the unit I had was a lemon, but it sure seemed to have lots of problems (reset the PalmOS several times, changed the contrast on my Visor). The final straw was when the MJLoader program crashed and somehow in the process prevented the MMC card from being formated (it refused to format it after that).

I ordered a Soundsgood the next day. It arrived in 3 days, and was up and running in about 6 minutes. I'm really happy with it. The transfer rate is so much higher, it really makes up for the fact that the memory is not removable (besides, who will be able to afford another 64MB MMC card when they become available?)

The advantage of using the MiniJam for "other things" is, well, to be seen in the future, since it cannot to anything else TODAY.

MIniJam is not so bad

I haven't tried Soundgood so I can't really compare the two but so far I really like MiniJam. Yes, MiniJam sticks out but I kinda like the design rather than Soundsgood's plain look.

Well, MiniJam may not "do anything else" but you can move some files to MiniJam internal flash memory. Initially I was really frustrated by shipping delay, but now I'm glad I didn't cancel my order.

As hcw3 said, I think it's diffucult to decide best one for all---it's up to what you want.

I haven't used the minijam, but I've had the soundsgood for about a week, and I think it is great!!! The file transfer speed is very good, and if the information I've read is correct, much faster than the minijam. If I had to wait 7 times longer to transfer music, that would be a real burden. I loaded the whole thing the first time in about 4 or 5 minutes. The headphone connector won't let my belt case close, so I have to find creative ways to carry it around without holding it, but I'm dealing with that. The software is very easy to use, and I have no complaints about the sound except that I wish there was a bit more BASS!!! Soundsgood says that there will be software updates for additional file formats, but for right now I am enjoying my large mp3 collection. I hope that at some point they will incorporate the ability to read audible files, and possibly provide file storage ( if they don't, I'll just enjoy the music). I like that the unit is small, and it packs a large WOW factor. This was a really expensive gift to myself, but I feel that it will keep on giving. Regardless of which player you choose, stock up on batteries because you will need them. When my readings get down to 20% I change them out. Good luck with your decision...

The worth of your $$$

When a friend of mine got his Soundsgood player he let me use it. I'd have to say it was really cool and fun. The data transfer was decent and the sound was suprisingly excellent for a visor attachment. I was overly impressed and began to get jealous when I had to give it back! I had it set it my mind to buy it. But when it came down to it I bought the Pro Media v2 Klipsch Surround Sound 400 Watt Super Bass THX certified Home computer sound sytem - for about the same price.

Go Figure.

The Soundsgood is an excellent module, I would definately recommend it. MP3 players rock in the module market.

While the soundsgood module has a better form factor and transfer speed, the thing I really like about it is the powerclip allows you to use it even if it's not in your visor. Of course, the powerclip isn't available yet...but I don't think innogear is offering anything similar (their battery pack still requires the module to be plugged into the visor). The biggest advantage of the minijam is larger capacity (128MB if you can find a second 64MB MMC card) and swap-able memory, so you can actually carry around as much music as you want in additional MMC cards (assuming you don't lose the tiny little suckers!)

I've decided on the Soundgood too. I'll wait for the Energy Clip to be release so I can save on shipping when I buy them together
