Ok, I've got Win98 set up with 2 Users so that User A syncs with Outlook and User B syncs with Palm Desktop. That's working great!
Recently tried to set up email. User B uses Outlook Express while User A still using Outlook.
Problem: User B (Outlook Express) syncs fine with Visor and all email is exchanged.
User A (logged in Win98 as User A) tries to sync email with everything set up to sync with Outlook (NOT Express) but for some reason User A ends up with User B email from Outlook Express!!

I've tried reloading software (Palm Mirror) and re-setting up email syncing prefs.
My confusion: Why, if User A is logged in as User A in Win98 does User B email get synced to User A Visor?

Please say you understand?

Thanks.

I think that the reason for this problem is taht you cannot have two email programs be the default for the machine. When outlook express is selected as the email conduit it prompts you to set it as the default mail client and MAPI handler. Since OE is set as the default, the conduit cannot overide this setup. You can set this manually in control panel>internet(options)>programs>mail..thant should tell you which is you default..

If the User A to Outlook and User B to Palm set up worked OK, I think the finger of blame should be pointing at Micro$oft... Maybe it doesn't take too much care to separate settings for Outlook and Outlook Express. I also don't think that Win98 makes as much distinction between two user log ins as it should (Win NT is better at this but we can't use that shiny new USB cradle with NT can we...)
Sorry that's not much help, but something else to think about.

I think you're right sih.

I'm going to check that setting in each Win98 'profile' when i get home today. Thanks for the tip.

fubar,

I have to use NT at work quite a bit and frankly i don't think it's worth switching for that possible added feature of differentiating profiles to this degree. Not to mention the whole USB thing (as you hinted).

Oh well, i guess i'll be updating my email at work and she'll be using the home computer!!

If anyone EVER figures out a way i'm still interested though.

I believe sih has about 95% of your solution. Here's what I would suggest: enabling profiles. "Logging on" to Win9x is meaningless (the system does nothing with the information) unless you have profiles enabled. Once done, you can set OE as the default for User B (logged in as User B with profile) and Outlook for User A's profile. Profiles are enabled in the Passwords applet, User Profiles tab.

Unhappy

I already have profiles set up...that's how i use palm desktop and she uses outlook to sync with our respective visors.

I tried 'logging' in as myself and setting outlook express as mail program and then logging out and logging in as her and setting outlook as her mail program, but sih was right. only one program can be set as the mail program.

profiles doesn't split things up 'that far down' win98.

oh well.
