Does anyone else think that the InnoPak's
vibrating alarm is really loud? It makes
a lot more noise while vibrating than any
pager or cellphone I've ever used. I'm
not sure you can call it a "silent" vibrating
alarm...even in a belt case, it's kind of
noisy.

Yes there is noise from the IP/2V when the alarm goes off. I mention this in my review.

If you have a case, the noise is almost non-existent. In my Rhodiana Visor case it is about as loud as a pager.

I've noticed the noise as well, so you didn't get a defective one. Personally, I kind of like it -- it scares the heck out of the cat.

Hey James, don't you think that too much vibration on your Visor might affect the performance of some functions like the IR or others in the Visor Deluxe.

I had a problem before with a Visor Deluxe that I used to take everywhere. It looks like the Beam function stopped working because I shaked it to much jumping an running around.

Yes, I worry about the vibrating pager shaking cables loose or snaping a delicate electronic connection.

There are so many horror stories about Visors broken by a fall of a couple of feet.

Too loud, not the problem with me. I work at an airport, the vibrating alarm lets me know when the alarm goes off, even when turboprops are around. The first time the alarm went off, I felt it while operating our airplane tug. It suits me. (and hey, the buzz is quieter than the alarm anyways)

If they made the vibrator any quieter you wouldn't be able to feel the vibes. I tested it several times today and felt it inside my shock suit in my back pocket! Makes me smile every time. I am pleased.

The whole point of a vibrating alarm is not to annoy others in delicate situations. Let me tell you, as an attorney if I take one of these into a courtroom where, say, getting a cellphone call might get me screamed at by a judge for 10 minutes, I'm still going to get reamed if it is audible. If it's audible to others, it's useless.

Regarding the Vibe level/noise issue: We found that quite a bit of the noise (rattle) is coming from the stylus and the battery cover of the Visor. Try this; put a small pc of foam tape behind the battery cover (just enough so it does not rattle).

The stylus noise is especially noticable with the metal stylus that comes with Visor deluxe. You can change to the plastic one and it will get quieter, but that is a bummer becuause you lose your cool metal stylus, so we are working on some new "vibe levels" for all these different use requirments.

Our goal with InnoPak/2V was to get a vibe that was strong enough to feel in a jacket pocket and/or in a case (remember, you guys have been screaming for modules, so we wanted to deliver as soon as possible :P)

We use proven, industry standard pager motors that have been used for years in handheld devices, so any damage caused by the vibe level is just not likely. The InnoPak and the Visor are rugged enough to handle an industry standard pager motor.

Also know that some of the top selling pagers have vibe levels even higher than ours. I was in a meeting the other day and someone's (very popular brand) two way pager went off and everyone in the room almost had a heart attack! If your Visor is sitting on a hard table top, and if your Visor is not in a case, it will make ALOT of noise when the pager motor goes off...even with a weak pager motor inside....this is just the nature of the beast.

Hopefully our forthcoming vibe level setting will give everyone some options...until then be aware of the battery cover and stylus issue. The vibe level will be a software download, and we will let everyone know.

I don't think the IP/2V will rattle anything loose, as things looked pretty tight when I tinkered with the inside of my VDX. Check my review on approximate time lengths that the alarm will go off. I set mine to Sci-fi and it only goes off for a second or two. Inside my Rhodiana Visor case, this doesn't present a problem at all.

configuring it to always go to vibrating mode after a reset...

if there a way or hack out there to tell the module and the visor to always use vibrating mode when the module is in the visor?

I sometimes forget to use ipconf to set it to vibrating mode and miss alarms...

Yeah, I can't stand that, ever time I pull out my 2/V The IP Conf is reset to alarm.

Innogear, is there any chance you could rectify this problem with a software update?

If it doesn't have a battery, does anyone using this see a lot faster battery drain?
