Is it true that Palms have IR technology built in?
Could I use this to send files and messages to my friend?
I am getting a Palm IIIxe and he will be getting a Palm or visor.
How far is the range on the IR?
Thanx

IR comm takes alittle practice, I've had success at distances ranging from .25m to 1m.
Some apps support sending data files, and others don't. There are third-party utilities (BeamBox) which will send most anything.
For IR messaging, you could try IRP2PChat from http://www.iscomplete.com/ - no personal experience with this so you may want to try the demo before buying.

In a nutshell, yes. All current PalmOS handhelds support basic IR beaming. At least in the apps that support it. For example, on a Visor, the enhanced Datebook+ does NOT have any beaming capabilities... you need to use the original Datebook for that.
