Exclamation

The Visor edge should be $299. Just that simple. Why you may ask? Outside of being thinner, what else new does it have?

No Palm 4.0

No extra ram internally, only 8 megs.

No new sound capabilities (which all palms needs bad)

Not any faster?

So the Edge is basically a Visor on slimfast.

Question FLASH ROM

SO DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE VISOR EDGE WILL HAVE FLASH ROM? FOR THE PRICE THAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT HERE YOU WOULD THINK IT WOULD. EVEN IF IT DID I THINK THAT I WOULD BE HAPPY W/ MY TRUSTY BLUE DVX. IT DOES EVERYTHING I NEED.

Make an educated guess. I think the answer is pretty obvious. All previous visors DON'T have FlashROM, so this Visor will..
a) YES! It will have it!
b) Uh, 42?
c) Can I buy a vowel?
d) NOT have FlashROM

PS-
Please stop typing in all caps, it's sort of rude.

Hmmm, of course, given your current Avatar, perhaps I don't want to purchase equipment from you!!

Too bad I can't convince my husband he needs a VDX--then I could go get the Prism!!

Of course, we think it should be less than $300, but it won't. Remember how much of a mark-up the PalmV was over the PalmIII when it came out? And the PalmV sold like hotcakes...

I think that a BMW should cost the same as a Nissan. Why you may ask? Outside of being a BMW, what else does it have?

Comparing PDAs is a different than comparing cars. But since you wanted to go there . . .

BMW is faster, Looks better, and has a much better "get the babe" factor than a Nissan.

If you compare a Nissan Maxima to a BMW 328i, I think their horse power is equivalent and there's not that much difference in zero to sixty time (the Maxima maybe even faster). Yet, people will pay thousands more for the BMW. I agree about the BMW "looks better", but then IMHO the Edge certainly looks better than the other visors too.

I don't know if the Edge are going to attract the babes... well... I think we know the answer to that one.

Ya gotta play the game

First, let me say that as a visor deluxe (and frequent springboard) user I wouldn't buy one of these. On the other hand, I can see why Handspring felt the need to make it.

I think it's marketed toward those buyers who walk tho local office despot and are wooed by the good looks of the Palm V or Clio and don't yet know that they need springboard compatibility They can still have the premium looks of their office buddies' Palm V's and at not be one-upped by Mr. Jones and his Omnisky equipped Palm V in the next cubicle. Well, Except that Jones's Omnisky module integrates much better.

Mike.

Arrow I agree

I agree somewhat. it is there for people who want to look classy. It is also there for people like me that want portability. The other Visors are somewhat portable...but I can't fit my prism in my pants pocket...looks like I will be able to do that with the EDGE.

No, I agree with the pants issue. I don't carry my VDx around in my pockets anymore it's just too big and heavy (by that I mean it makes my pants lopsided, not that it is too heavy for me to carry ). In other words I notice if my Visor is in my pocket. Now take my Nokia 8290, I could carry that around even if I was wearing tights (no I don't) and I wouldn't notice it. If the edge is lighter and doesn't carry a hefty price tag I might consider buying it just so I can "keep it in my pants".

And that metal cover has to offer much better protection, plus it's attached to the device.

I might get a Visor Edge

I can say that I am giving some serious thought to getting the Visor Edge. Now I won't go run out on Monday to buy one. Mainly for two reasons 1.) since I am only working as an intern and getting paid milage it is a little bit out of my price range and 2.) I would like to find out if it will be able to use the current stowaway keyboard or if it will need a new one.

I am perfectly fine using a monochrome screen. Sure color would be nice but since I have only used a Palm IIIx and a VDx, I won't be stepping down with the Edge.

I like to see that Handspring is coming out with a Visor that is comparable to the Palm Vx. True it would be nice if it had some more features or that the sleeve was not so bulky but I only use the backup module so it is not something that I need all of the time.

The thing that I love the most about the Edge is that Handspring has included an attached flip cover. If there is one thing that I miss from my old Palm IIIx, which my mother is using now, it is the flip cover.

Using the built in LED as a silent alarm would be pretty nice.

Angry

I think HS is nuts if they try this thing at $400. I think $350 might be attractive. I mean, I'm not paying more than $50-$75 more than a Plt for simply having rechargable batteries and being a little bit smaller.

If it also supported SD or CF from the box, I'd pay a bit more. I'd fork over another $50 or so for 16megs instead of 8. Built in BlueTooth? God, I can't wait. It doesn't appear that they've done any of this, however.

What it does appear they accomplished it to obsolete by extra cradle and Stowaway keyboard. I hope they have some real motivation behind the redesign.

Arrow You forget

You forget the metal case. That should count towards the $100 Premium. Also..NO MORE environmentally unfriendly disposable batteries. The rechargeable batteries will save you money on batteries.

Thumbs up

Well, since Amazon.com now has posted the Visor Edge for pre-order the price has finally been released, $399 retail. This is much better than what was previously reported. Now, I wonder when Palm will start to lower the price of the Palm Vx? As of today, they still sell for $399.
