I have a Umax J700 G3/250 with a D-Link 4-port USB hub and an ADS 2-port USB PCI card. My Visor has been flawlessly synching for the last two months. I recently went out of town on business. When I came back, the Mac no longer recognizes the cradle!

At first, I had the cradle plugged directly into one of the ports on the ADS card. Moving the cradle to the hub ports doesnt work. Switching to a different cradle doesnt work. Removing and then reinstalling the Palm Desktop software from the Handspring CD doesnt work. All of my other USB devices function normally.

The symptoms of this problem are twofold: the desktop software ignores any sync requests from the handheld, and the cradle no longer appears in the Devices & Volumes tab of Apple System Profiler.

What else? I tried removing the HotSync prefs file to no avail. Any other suggestions would be most welcome.

I had a similiar problem on my G4. One day the hotsync worked perfectly, the next, nothing.

A soft reset of the Visor fixed everything.

I did NOT check to see if the cradle disappeared from the system profiler, though, so I do not know if it is the same problem you are having...maybe your cradle died?

Samething has happened to me with my Imac USB craddle. It worked without a problem for one week than suddenly wont synch. The weird thing is that it will synch fine with my windows PC. After trying everything, soft resets, hard resets, multiple reinstalls of the desktop software, I erased my Imac hard drive and restored only the factory settings(I know, a bit drastic). I then instaled the Handspring desktop and still, can not hotsynch.

A soft reset of the Visor fixed the sync problem, but the cradle still has not reappeared in the system profiler. Weird.

Another odd item. My original Visor got its screen cracked. When the replacement unit came back, as soon as I put it in the cradle it would initiate a sync, even without pressing the button. Now that I've reset the unit, it's back to the original (documented) behavior of needing a HotSync button push to make it go.
