Lately, I have been noticing that my hotsyncing time is getting longer and longer. From vindgo, to avantgo, to coola, and back to backupbuddy, my average usb hotsync takes about 5 mins. Thats 5 mins of my life that could be spent sleeping, or whatever. I was thinking, why setup a way to sync through firewire, or scsi. Wouldn't that be great? Really fast. I know that the Visor's port is serial, but wouldn't it speed things up anyway?

I use USB for my hotsync, takes under a minute.

The Visor's port is USB, not serial.

Avantgo has some options you can set to only refresh pages once a day , not every hotsync.

In any case, I dumped avantgo, that REALLY made my hostsync's faster.

The port in the visor itself is still a serial port from what I know.

I think you missed what I'm trying to say, I don't want to stop syncing certain apps, that I can do just fine, I want to sync everything I sync now faster, thats why I suggested firewire, since its supposed to be faster then scsi, and its hotswappable just like usb.

Actually, the port on the bottom of the Visor supports both USB and serial. Thats why the syncs are so fast (compared to a serial or USB Palm device).

Anyway, to speed up my syncs, I set my Avantgo channels to sync once every 12 hours. That way I do not have all the channels syncing all the time. As far as Vindigo goes, if you remove the cities you currently do not need on your device, it will drastically increase your sync time.

From my experiance, the slow down in sync is not caused by the throughput of your USB connection. The connection is plenty fast, considering you can't be transfering more than 8MB. The slowdown is caused by the conduits that must connect to a central server over the internet (Yodlee, Avantgo, Vindigo, etc...) and improving the transfer rate between the PC and your Visor will not speedup that up.

I think that part of the AvantGo problem is that more and more people are using the service.

The longer it takes to download the connection, the longer your sync. For instance, from home (dial up), my syncs take about 5 times as long when I'm syncing Avantgo or email.

It would be nice to be able to download/sync up the data onto your PC first, and then do the hotsync. It seems like it spends a lot of time waiting for AvantGo to download.

Not much of an issue for those with rechargable batteries, but my AAAs sure go down fast when hotsyncs take 10 minutes or more!
