What's New? I Mean Really.....

I've had my VDX for almost a year now. Never having used a PDA before I was blown away by the scheduling features (I use mypalm.com to synch with over the net so my wife has access to my schedule). Then I discovered Avantgo, which I found to be the height of coolness, saving me from a litany of boring meetings (it would be rude to sit and read a newspaper in a staff meeting, but a PDA is so discreet).

CSpotRun is a convenient and free reader...there is nothing I would want to keep on my PDA that I couldn't easily render into a text format, so I don't need to spend $30 or more on a Word emulator.

I also find the TideTool to be neat as I am an avid boater.

I purchased an OmniRemote, which is my "default" module, offering a convenient way to control my TV and VCR. I have a 56k Card Access modem, which I consider marginal, as it only ever connects at 27k.

I haven't added a single neat app or module to my VDX in six or seven months. My new Kyocera phone with its CDPD wireless internet connectivity threatens to eclipse the gee whiz elements of my VDX any day now. Does anyone have any suggestions? Perhaps a connector cable from my phone to my VDX?

If you fish from that boat you avidly use, have you used the fishing logs they have at Palmgear? I settled on the customizable one that you can get free from www.lurefish.com

A few suggestions.

-Do you live in a big city. Download Vindigo. Movie listings, restaurant listings, nightlife, and directions to all of the above.

-ThinkDB2, very cool in that I use it to track my own library, do research at my school's library, and do other random stuff with it.

-Um, games?

-Since you seem to be the one who's always starting the doom and gloom stock threads, I'm sure that there are some good stock tracking and organization programs out there.

-or you could do what I usually end up doing, upgrading

Aye dietrich, and the truly disturbing thing is that all of the issues I was pessimistic about last month have depreciated another 50% since then. It is one thing to be "doom and gloom". It is another thing to simply be right.

I've been toying with the idea of ThinkDB or another one of the database programs. I don't have alot of call for tracking things and stuff beyond scheduling or contact management, but I might find a way.

I don't see the reason to upgrade...I can always delete Noah Light if I need to pick up another 2MB of space. The new hardware features (flashing lights, vibration)are of little interest to me...the faster processor would be nice, but I can only read Avantgo so quickly. And for all the talk about wanting to be able to upgrade the OS, frankly, there isn't a dimes worth of difference between Palm OS 3.1, 3.5 and 4.0...about the only module/program I've been interested in that my VDX won't run is the OmniSky modem.

Why not get VisorPhone instead of Omnisky. IIRC $50 after activation. On the plans I looked at Activation fee is $20 and then it costs $20 a month for 60 minutes+$20 if you want extra datastream minutes (the 60 minutes can be used for data or phone).

The Visorphone was my first choice, but there was no coverage plan in my area that would have allowed me to get the actual module for free. I see a $40 cable for my Kyocera phone in my near future. That way I get the connectivity I crave for $5.99 a month (on top of my $35 monthly plan which includes 350 minutes -- data or voice).

The only problem with the CDME stuff is that it connects at 14.4k. It takes almost twenty battery draining minutes for me to update my Avantgo at 27k with my CardAccess 56k modem (which has little business advertising itself as a 56k unit). I can't even convieve of doing it at half that speed.

Maybe Blazer would be better....damn I hate paying for apps though (then I piss and moan about my favorite companies going out of business--go figure).

Well then maybe you can make yourself more comfortable with the massaging springboard:

That Personal Massager springboard is a joke? Right??? I looked to see if it was scheduled for release on April 1 but there was no mention of that.

Hell, I'll go for anything that offers a squeeze mode.

What a hoot! I can't believe it! Of course you could do the same thing with the mini-jam if you just hook the speaker wires up right!
