Mocha PPP should work via Serial. Check the speed, there's a limit. And f you're running Mocha shareware, you have to click a button to "initiate" the service. Make sure Hotsync is not running as well.

I have tried it time and time again. I even tried it without hotsync installed. I tried it on Win2K and Win95 with no results. I set it up exactly like the documentation said to and nothing...nada! I understand about the 19.2 limitations for Palm OS 3.0, 3.1 and I checked and double checked this to make sure it was set. There has to be somthing thats not documented....Any ideas?

Thanks....

I'm not sure, but I think I remember reading somewhere (don't ask me where) that someone was able to use MochaPPP with a serial cradle and a null modem adapter. Then again, I could (probably) be wrong.

It's a problem with the VisorDeluxe Serial line

The problem you are experiencing with your VisorDeluxe is not the fault of the software. It will work with packages like ReDirector for PalmOS (http://www.wagware.com) and others such as mochaPPP. With a little magic.

Check out this link:

http://www.portlabelle.com/iii/rona...2%20Devices.htm

It was sent to me by a gentleman named Kieran who had researched this problem. I believe you'll need to place a piece of tape over the contacts to allow the VisorDeluxe to work. In subsequent models, Handspring opted for a more standardized RS232 implementation.

Hope this helps

Question software vs. hardware

I came across this thread and decided to experiment with "cheaper" alternatives to internet access for my VDX.

I loaded Mochasoft MochaPPP, matched up the com port and correct baud rate with my VDX, and MochaPPP never comes out of it's "Connection Disabled" mode (Question mark icon).

I have tried it with both a serial cradle and with a serial cable that I use on travel. Neither work...Still get "Connection Disabled"

After checking out the http://www.portlabelle.com/iii/rona...2%20Devices.htm website, I thought that it was a cable problem.

So I proceded to "create" a null-modem adapter as that website shows and I covered pin 2 on my VDX with tape.

IT STILL DOESN'T WORK. The software never comes out of the "Connection Disabled" mode. I have tried it on two different computers with the same result. Both of these computers run hotsync, PalmAMP and PebblesPC without problems, so I don't think I have a serial port problem.

Bottom line, I think it IS the software. Any more ideas would be extremely welcome.

I don't have MochaPPP on my system since I moved to USB, but you have to click the Palm Pilot icon on the MochaPPP screen to "start" the software.

No need for special cables, unless the VDX has a problem.

Also, after "start" on the MochaPPP screen, you'll need to start a connection from the Visor.

Try unclicking serial connection on your hotsync setup. I use a program for controlling powerpoint presentations through my serial cradle and its instructions say this must be done with Visor Deluxes for some reason. You have to do this even if you disable hotsync...

Hope this works for you
