Xircom Modem 56 or Wireless Ethernet

I know the springboard is DEAD but I was interested in the opinions of all here. I have a wireless network at home and ZERO net access at work. If I get the wireless card I know it would be easier but then again if I get the 56 I MIGHT be able to use it at work. Not sure how I would get dialup access though as I am on cable at home. So that would be anouther can of warms

Where would be good places to pick these up without spending lots of cash. Anyone used either of these products. Basically what I would use them for would be mostly mail and probably some IM stuff. Just the basics.

I am lazy and would love to be able to surf while sitting on the couch. The other option would be to find a cheep laptop and put a wireless card in it.

What does everyone think?

Search on ebay - I just picked up a Xircom modem for $1.25 (with $9 for shipping :P) Not sure if it is a working module but it was worth the $10.25 to find out. Wireless is also nice - expect to pay as much as $100 for it though. I've used the wireless module for a while and it works fine (if you disable the power management.)

I was waiting for the price to come down some more on the Xircom Wirleess LAN module, but now the under $100 price seems to be gone and Amazon has them for $250!

I got a Toshiba Notebook for $500 after $600 in rebates from BestBuy and Toshiba. I got rebates on NetGear Wireless Router and PCMCIA card. Sure wish I can find the Xircom wireless springboard for under $100 somewhere. Hope I haven't waited too long. Notebook is great for extended surfing, but just to look up something quick, especially text-based, like movie times, weather, etc. it is hard to beat the convenience of the Visor.

FWIW, I have no dial-up either since we switched to cable modem, so my Handspring 33K modem springboard just sits in my accessory case. If you really want one, Consumer Depot has the Xircom 56K wire modem for $20, what a deal! <www.consumerdepot.com>

I was hoping to use my Visorphone for surfing, but VoiceStream/T-Mobile killed the free ISDN line!

How is the resolution on the visor for anyone that uses it for internet? I would probably just be checking weather, email and using it for messanger programs (though I am not sure if that would even work)

Xircom

I bought a Xircom on ebay for about $100. It works but the browser sucks, but I've heard that you can replace the browser with something else though I haven't had a chance to try it yet.
