Question

Is there an easy way to edit the event name of a single occurrence of a recurring event? For time, date, and note changes to a recurring event, the system asks you whether you want to make the change for that one occurrence, for all or for future, but for changes to the name itself, you don't get that option, it automatically changes the name on all occurrences. I can get around this by changing one of the other elements first to isolate the event, and then changing the event name, but this is roundabout...

Seems to me that if a "recurring event" has a different name from one time to the next, then it's not really "recurring."

Or at least that's probably the logic behind the lack of an option for it...

"Weekly Staff Meeting" one week might be "Weekly Staff Meeting (Conf. Rm 7701)" and the next week, "Weekly Staff Meeting (Conf. Rm 7700)"; sure, you could designate the different locations in the 'Notes' section, but it's easier just to keep simple information like that right in the event description so you don't have to open up the 'Notes' section for basic info...

Very true--having to open up the notes section for that would be bothersome.

I can't figure out a way to do what you want, either, but if I think of something I'll post it...

Unhappy

Actually, I just noticed that even when you change the 'Notes' for a recurring item, it automatically makes that change for the entire series as well. So I guess the only changes it allows you to designate for specific occurrences are time and date changes...

When you edit a recurring event, you are prompted to make the change for the current item or all of the recurring items.

If you select the current item, it converts the item to a discreet event and marks the database entry for the recurring event to treat that item as an exception.

If you select All Items, then it changes the underlying recurring event data.

Remember, the attributes for recurring events are only stored once along with the type of recurrance and the exception list.

So Leo, there is no way to do exactly what you want. One thing that could make it easier is Datebook4 which will allow you make an item into an exception will a single stroke. Or, it also allows you to create a bunch of discreet events from a single entry (Irr Schedule) and then you could edit the Event Name of each to include room number, etc.
