Bah... Except that J.Edgar was already director of the FBI 5 years before Herbert was even elected.

Washington? He was a successful general and commanded the presence of any room he entered. He would have a solid chance---expect that he railed against the two party system and didn't believe that it would be good for America, so he would probably lose because he wouldn't have a money-machine behind him. then again, if we had some real campaign finance laws, he'd be in like Flynt (or is it just Flynn.. I can never remember)

Flint (James Coburn is cool). No, Washington wouldn't stand a chance. The new media would crucify him.

Maybe these violent tendencies explain your fear of guns. No wait, we did that one already.

It was difficult to tell. You're a liberal wacko, so it's entirely plausible that you'd think Roosevelt was a conservative.

I was joking too. I just wanted to point out that you might be getting your Hoovers mixed up. Unless you are really talking about the founder of Hover Vacumns, then I whole-heartedly agree with you.

I broke the record! I broke the record. I broke the record, hey hey, hey hey!

And then the NRA would claim resurrection, the head honcho would profess infallibility, and gun-lovers everywhere would start one hell of a holy war against the pacific heretics. Wanna bet who'd win, Diet R. Bohn?

You still don't get it. The point isn't 'assault rifles'. The point is freedom from fascistic control. I'd make the same arguments for homosexuality, pr0n, or marijuana (even though I have no use for those). If you city rats want to outlaw guns and just gnaw each other to death in your overcrowded cages, go right ahead. Just don't try to dictate your 'liberal' moral superiority to us 'Klan confederates'.

You 'peaceful' 'Nordic Folk' didn't seem to like it the last time the southern states tried that, though.

I get it, I've always gotten it. I just think it's inane to think that guns aren't special cases.

Somehow it doesn't seem that way.

They were a special case in the eyes of the guys that founded the system of government which you claim to like, only not in the way that you'd like. Rejecting that is functionally rejecting the ideals upon which the government was founded (not that there's anything wrong with that per se).

I actually respect that tack less than outright saying what the 'although' would have prefaced. At least then I'd know where I stand. If you think that I have anything remotely in common with the Klan, that'd at least be worth a laugh.

How.. Many.. Times.. does a guy have to say it? I made a MISTAKE. Let it die, please, let it die.

Of all people dietrichbohn, I figured for sure you would have gotten D-R's reference to that thread.

If this thread has taught us anything, it's that nothing will ever be allowed to quietly die.

Well, give me some credit I guess. It's possible to fully understand an argument yet reasonably reject it without being able to articulate it (in this format, at least).

Well, I reject some of the ideals the gov't was founded on--we all do... it's possible to do that without wanting to tear the whole goddamn thing down...

...and the **** it was more my inability to articulate a joke than the hiding of one...

rah rah sis boom bah.

What the hell. why doesn't somebody just kidnap Marshall Faulk for the next week or so--don't hurt him, just put him up in a cozy little resort town and let the superbowl just pass him by. Might help even the score. I'm sick and tired of the Rams.

Why? We all know the Rams are going to win the Super Bowl. I predict that the score will be 27-17 Rams.

And even if Marshall Faulk couldn't play, the Rams would still win.
