I just got my backup module today but I am curious about what it will and won't backup. When I look at the app info it show that I have just under 6.9 meg of free memory in the visor but when I look at the data for the module, it shows 12K free of 63K available. Are they using a compression technology or is it just backing up data and not apps?

I don't claim to know how they're doing it, but it definitely backs up everything, data and apps.

As a test, I did a backup to the module, then removed it. I then did a hard-reset checked to see what remained. All gone, just basic ROM programs remained. I then put the module back in and "restored".

Everything exactly as before. Love this thing.

I have done the same test, and it will backup all 8MB on your Visor (or all 2MB for you Solo people).

I also noticed the 63K of memory on the backup module in the "info" screen. My guess is that this is where the card keeps the data from the last backup up. If you notice in the Backup app, it shows the last time the handheld was backed up, and the last time the module was used to back something up. My guess is that 12K file keeps track of the last time the card was used, and other config information it needs to successfully restore the information to your handheld.
