Unhappy

Yesterday my life was perfect. I walked home from work, bouncing along to a new remix of Madonna, then a nice latin beat called Ariba, and onto Lady Marmalade by Pink/Mya... I placed my Prism for a recharge when I go home like I do every evening the went about the business of being me.

Watched Tina win a mill and went to bed.

Woke up this morning and started on my walk to the office and all of a sudden the headphone jack back to not work. It has to be jiggled around, just seems like a weak connection. Battery is fulled charged. I have never dropped the SG, never sat on it, or casually thown it in my bag. I did however leave it on a chair in the Philly airport, that was a big panic scene, but another story. But that would not cause the jack to freak out. It is about 4 months old (yes purchased before the price drop).

I called the good people at Palmgear and they have not called me back, not that I really expect them to.

Has this happened to anyone else or am I just the victim of evil Washington DC Condo gremlins with nothing better to do that break expensive gadgets.

Any input would be appreciated.

I would contact Good directly. They are 'good' folks, they should be able to take care of your dilemma. Let us know how it goes!

I tried that first this is what is posted on Good's website:

"We've done our best to build Good Products that need minimal support. And we hope that our FAQs will answer most of your questions.

If you do need assistance, please contact our exclusive distribution partner, Palmgear, at (817) 640-6558, ext. 260, Monday through Friday from 9AM to 6PM central time or email Palmgear at [email protected]. A representative will be happy to assist you"

I was kind bummed about this because I don't find PG to be a very responsive company. It has been my experience that when they are good, they are great. When they are bad, the really suck.[COLOR=royalblue]

i bought a SG right after the price drop. after i'd had it for 1 day i sent a rather praising letter to Good, but added this to my letter:

"what suprises me about this superiour product is that you've included a standard jack on the headphones instead of an L-connector jack. i would highly recommend an L-connector jack for future SG releases. as anyone who's spent a significant amount of time with walkmans will know, the standard jack has a few problems, the main one being that when pressure is applied to any side of the jack, the contact inside will eventually short out, making sound only come out one side and force the user to wiggle the jack to get proper sound."

so, i'd guess that you're jack has shorted. i don't know how you carry your visor while listening to the SG, but if it's in a pocket or a bag or anything like that, the jack will eventually short (or already has). therefore, it is recommended that you get a new set of headphones (with L-connector) or always carry your visor in your hand (what i do). of course, since you're already having this problem, i would say that Good or PG will have to replace it.

before you do this, however, try a different set of headphones and see if perhaps something happened to them (do you "roll" your headphones up when done with them? if so, bad idea for the same reason (shorting out)).

good luck,

mc

MC - Thanks for the tips.

I never used the earphones that came with the SG. I bought a sort of expensive pair of the behind the head earbuds with an L connector.

I tried three sets of earphones with no difference. I typically carry the VP in my jacket/breast pocket. I am very careful with my toys so I know that have not jammed it or anything like that, literally it went from working fine yesterday to all jacked up today. Weird.

Thanks again.
