Today, Walt Mossberg in his Personal Technology column in The Wall Street Journal reviews both the new Palms and Handspring's Edge. Gives thumbs down to Palm's color version.

Post me too re: m505

This was the same experience I had when testing the m505 at FOSE last week. I thought I had a prototype model and figured that might explain the (non)color, but it appears as if Mossberg had the same trouble. Needless to say, I won't be buying an m505.

Now, the burning question: does either model (m500 or m505) come with integrated cover like the Edge? Some have claimed Yes, but I don't see any mention of integrated cover on Palm.com or in any reviews.

See "Inside the Box" where "Protective flip cover" is listed.

I can't believe this article's had so much notice / comment. It's not that negative. It borders on inconclusive. I'm willing to wait to see a prod. model when they come off the lines.
Maybe a unit of its size can't pump out the brightness of a Prism or IIIc, but it's hard to believe any 64k color device would show up as little more than b&w.
Pix are still worth 1,000 words, and I've seen very few, all showing mostly the same (start up) screen.
