As a newbie user, I have put together a few 'survival kits' for my VDX, and am wondering what others have done, or think, about this.

My kit consists of a couple sets of cleaning packets (Fellows BrainWash) and the Kharma Cloth, a WriteRight screen protector, a pair of AAA batteries, and a spare stylus (with mini-screwdriver and reset pin.) It fits nicely in a small Zip-Lock bag, and I made one to keep in my car or fanny pack, one at work, and one at home. By the way, I taped the batteries end-to-end and taped them to the stylus to keep the packet small and neat. If I ever needed to, I could also drop the entire VDX in the plastic bag.

I also downloaded the article on screen repair from MemoWare, printed it out, and plan to make up a 'screen repair kit' with the various things it recommended all together: Rain-X (you need so little, I may transfer a bit to a small 'dripper'-type bottle), Crazy Glue, Q-tips, no-lint polishing cloth, and some foil for a mixing bowl. This would also rest in a plastic bag, kept at home for some extreme emergency (after the warranty expires!)

Overkill? Paranoia? Basic preparedness/insurance?

Where do you buy these special supplies?

Lessee,

The cleaning supplies (wipes and Kharma Cloth) come as a "Fellowes PDA Screen Clean" kit. I got mine at Target.

The "Fellowes WriteRight Screen Protectors" also came from Target. Both of these items are available any place that carries a decent selection of PDA supplies. (Note also that other posts have suggested other solutions to protecting the screen besides WriteRights. I tried several, and like the WriteRights- but it is a personal choice!)

"Rain-X" is a silicone oil windshield treatment available in the automotive section of most stores.

Hey- another "D-OH!" moment: I have a case with Velcro, and a small tab of matching Velcro on the back of my VDX. It made for a wobbly mount, so I put more Velcro on the back of the Visor. I even cut the Velcro to let me open the battery compartment and module!

Well, I could not set it in the cradle correctly! Dang it! I cut away the interferring Velcro and was dang near back to just the small square I started with.

Then, it hit me! I stuck a big chunk of Velcro on the snap-on cover! Now, the cover sits in the case, and the Visor snaps into the cover. When I am just using the cover, the Velcro does not get in the way and even cushions the case a bit! Best of all, it sits in the case rock solidly.
