Magellan GPS in car

Ok, the GPS for the Prism seems to be the Mag. Companion with Mapopolis Maps...How well does the receiver do in a car?

Mine works great in the car. I use it out of town to find my way around without a hitch. Just bought Rand McNally Street maps, and its awesome on the Prism, especially using the door to door directions. I may buy the Mapopolis premium maps if they post a picture of one so I an decide.

Mine works fine in the car. I haven't tried Mapopolis or Rand McNally, so I can't comment on which works better.

Well I did it last night. I purchased the full subscription to the premium maps. It does offer door to door driving directions, but the maps look the same as the basic/enhanced maps. I had hoped they would look more like in car navigation systems since the data was based on the Navtech maps which look really good from what I can see from their web site. The Rand McNally maps have a better presentation and have all the local business in the data base on your visor. I will try to post a full review of both at a later time.

What is the best Door to door program?

I am looking for a door to door maping program to use on my many travels. Any hands on experience would be great. I am very interested in what the pro's and con's are to the different software that is out there.

Everyone I have heard from says Mapopolis is the Best..but one on here did like Rand Mc... You may get more replies if you start your own thread outside of this one..It is old now and few people are viewing it.

As far as I can tell, Mapopolis is the only one that offers door to door directions at this time.

I just got the Magellan on Friday and played with it a little. It
just amazes me how accurate it is using it with Mapopolis. It
showed me passing a street as I was going over/under it on the
interstate at 75MPH. Cool toy. Just need more ram on my Prism
to load more than one map.

This is my problem with GPS and my Prism, those $99 VDx's are starting to look pretty good, but for $250 total, I could have gotten another stand-alone GPS!

sorry if this seems like a newbie question...

but does the gps system track your course AS you are driving on it? Such as if you take the wrong turn, will it recalculate a new route to your destination?

And can a vdx use it too?

I would love a GPS system for my travels but am unsure what to get.

Thanks
