poo.. =( could I not just delete the system db's manually and have them auto created?
Also, does that also mean I have to create a totally new profile in my hotsync manager?
can I just hard-reset my edge, remove my visor dlx system db's from palm's backup folder on my HD and then re-hotsync it? I'll ahve to re-register my programs but that's ok.
Thanks for the headsup
there's really more then just one file, and I'm not sure which files you have to delete and recreate. Here's it what I did when I got the new Edge. Of course, you'll need to hard reset first.
1. I gathered all my programs that I want to install and find all the emails that have the serial# for these programs.
2. Go into the Palm folder and you will find a folder with your hotsync name (My hotsync name was Steve Smith, so I found a folder called "ssmith". In that folder you will find 2 other folders titled "backup" and "archive". Rename these folders to backup-old and archive-old. You can get rid of these folders later, after you have reinstalled.
3. Then, hook up the new cradle and install the HS desktop software that came with the Edge (or the one on HS website). You will be given a choice as to the profile name, use the same name you did before. You should be given a choice as to what device you are using (pick the edge, of course). Follow all the directions for the software install.
4. Re-install all you apps (conduits and palm apps) and hotsync. Every desktop app I have ever found (related to palm software) lets you reinstall right over the top of the exisiting software. SO if any modifications/preferences are made on the desktop side of the software (if there is one), they will be retained.
5. On the Edge, you'll have to reset all your preferences and re-register your software with the correct serial numbers.
Believe me, I thought it was going to be a pain in the ass but it didn't take that long to do. Actually, I've had to do it again because the first Edge I got was faulty so I had to get a replacement. I have re-installed everything 3 times. BTW... I have a lot of programs to re-install and it wasn't that big of a deal.
After everything is setup you might have to go into the backup-old folder and install and db's for programs like MobileDB or HandyShopper. I would stay away from installing db's (in that folder) that you have no idea what they are. After a day or so of running good with the Edge, you can probably get rid of the "old" folders that you renamed previously.
Good Luck and I hope this helps you.....
