Well, I'm pulled the trigger and ordered the Magellan GPS module from Staples.com. Thought folks might want to know they can get $30 off the price by using coupon code 91281 (good through 4/30/01). Technically, the total "basket" price has to be over $150 to get the $30 off, so I added a 33 cent mechanical pencil and voila!

Kept waiting to see when Staples.com would show the Magellan on their site and they finally appeared this morning. BTW, the $30 off is better than the Avantgo Compusa clickthrough ad that appeared a couple days ago for a 10% discount on PDA acessories and God knows if the Compusa folks would have considered the Magellan module an "accessory."

Anyway, $120 for a GPS ain't too bad.

Question Re: $30 off Magellan GPS at Staples.com

Are you sure you ordered the Magellan? The reason I am asking is becasue when I go to the staples web site the Handy GPS is listed not the Magellan. Only the product Title says magellan, the rest says Handy GPS, so I don't know what the Staples typo means.
Product Title: Magellan GPS
Product Photo: Handy GPS
Product Description: Handy GPS

Thumbs up

I ordered without going to the full page. At first look, you are right and I went YIKES! However, I called my local Staples and had them read the SKU from a Magellan GPS Companion for the Visor and it matches the item number (450515) listed on the page with the HandyGPS picture.

I feel confident the folks who do the webpage screwed up and put the wrong picture and body text up. I'm further feeling OK about it because I called the .com folks last week and asked if the Magellan unit was in the stores, why didn't the website have it and was told it was backordered and they would carry it. I was laying back on buying at the local store to use the $30 off website-only coupon (the local store would not honor it, different divisions and all that). Besides I get free shipping and one day delivery to boot.

I'll do a followup post with good or bad news on Monday went it is due to arrive in my anxious hands.

Lightbulb

Here is a lil' trick I learned while shopping for my new visor deluxe and magellan gps. It involves two Staples stores and coupon numbers "91178" and "91112". The first coupon saves 40 bucks off $200 or more and the second saves 30 bucks off $100 or more. I was shopping online at staples.com (Well browsing) and was like **** I want to use both coupons and save 70 dollars! Staples.com has the wonderful policy one coupon code only which can only be used for your first order. I was like its still a good deal with only the 40 dollar coupon, So I called up staples ordering at "18003782753" and asked if I could place a order with her and pick up my new visor and gps at my local store instead of waiting for it to be shipped. She gave me some crap about it having to be shipped from a warehouse to the staples store because the store couldn't use there inventory. I was like umm screw that bye bye staples lady! Ya know how it is if your a true gadget geek like me waiting for those UPS goons to get you your stuff, plus it's usually somewhat smashed or something when you get it.

Anyways after talking to her I called up the local staples and asked to talk to the manager... I explained I wanted to use a online coupon that I got in my e-mail. She seemed a tad bit confused by the whole thing so it took awhile. Eventually she was like yea bring the coupon in and we can give you the discount. Well since I just had the coupon code advertisement that was sent to my email I just printed that out and took it in. On the way to the store I thought of a great idea. I realized that I was just going to buy the visor deluxe with the 40 bucks off and call another store when I got home to ask about the online coupon for 30 bucks. So I picked up my visor deluxe from staples store 1 with no problems and called another staples about 25 miles away when back home. Once again I talked to the manager this time a guy and he said the same thing bring in the coupon and we can give it to you (staples store 2). So I used my mad printing skills again and went to pick up my Magellan GPS for a $119 g's ! Well that's how I got my Visor Deluxe and gps for a grand total of $330!

...... Oh if you want the e-mail ad for the codes so you can print them out yourself.. Just e-mail me at [email protected] and I can forward them to you.
