I've had my VPL for about 3 months now. And just yesterday I noticed some "rubbed" off spots on the back because of my setting it down on tables and stuff. I also noticed some wear and tear marks on my grafitti area (I will get those screen protector thingys today). Just wondering how beat up are everyone else's Visors.

I can't vote in your poll b/c mine is in great condition, but I don't really take immaculate care of it on purpose.

My VDX stays either on my desk, in my hand, or in my purse for the most part--I used to have it in a Thin Leather Case, but switched to a Flip Cover a couple of months ago. I thought it might show some signs of wear (especially on the back) but it still looks great!

Which sucks b/c I can't go get a Prism unless I have a good reason to...

Oh boy, my Vdx looked pretty bad, with all that tape around the case when I finally paid the $80 to Handspring for a replacement.

Then I gave the new one to my husband (over my son's protests.)

And I got a new Prism. Yeah!!!
I use my handheld all day long, for work and play, and it gets pretty banged up.

It helps that I buy an extended warranty though, through Staples, and they're very good about replacement.

Earlier this year, I used it to replace a PalmIIIc that I had tried to give to my newbie husband. The graffiti recog on it was soooooo bad that it was unusable. After 2 months, Staples allowed me to return it and upgrade to the Prism mentioned above. And of course, my husband is happy with the Vdx because it WORKS!!

I attempt to take immaculate care of my Visor (acquired 12/2000), but it must be suicidal because it keeps leaping out of my hand onto the pavement. Amazingly enough it hasn't broken yet, but it is getting pretty roughed up.

I just examined my VDx for wear; the paint's rubbing off the To-Do button, which is weird because I hardly ever use the to-do button ...
Also the plastic by the power button once chipped off; I happened to find the bit and glued it back into place.
Beyond those, no visible wear-and-tear.

I've had my Visor since mid-January.

I am on my 3rd version of my VDX. The 1st one I had worked great and it got beat-up. About 6 months later I noticed that the paint on my calendar button was coming off. I called Customer Service and they sent me a new DVX. That one lasted for about 2 weeks before it died (it just locked up and would not work ). And that is how I got my 3rd DVX. I try and take care of it, but I take it everywhere and some cracks are starting to show, mostly around the power button. Other then that it looks great.

My VPL (Dec 2000) is showing some wear and tear around the corners. I've been without my Vaja case for a while now waiting for a replacement, and it's been getting a little more beat up than usual in my pocket. There are some scraches and scuffs from getting dropped a couple of times, paint wearing off my buttons and the corners. Nothing extreme though. Considering how much I beat up my VPL, it still looks pretty good.

A friend of mine who got his VPL about the same time wore off quite a bit of the paint on the back from sliding around on his desk. Then he got wise and started using his hard case on the back or resting it on the soft case.

I keep my VPL in a black, zippered, Body Glove neoprene case. For $19.95 @ Staples, it is the best looking, most bulletproof protection for your Visor. It looks like it cost $40 - $50. The color of the zipper matches my VPL almost perfectly.

Once I tripped and tossed my visor in this case once AND IT JUST BOUNCED! Now I amaze and horrify my friends by nonchalantly tossing it to the ground. (not recommended )

I secure it by putting velcro on my snap-on lid, and attaching the lid to the back of the case. This way you don't have to fight velcro when you're hotsyncing.

It adds a little bulk, but is lighter than my h'spring slim leather case. A zipper case is the only way to go for the anal and paranoid.

I'm a little bit of a protection freak and use the aluminum hardcase plus a strip of Writeright over the grafitti area. So far, after a year or so, all I have is a small scratch on the screen.

My visor looks like holy hell but it works ok. I bought it in early 2000. there is almost nothing left of the icons on the buttons. the power button rarely works. the grafitti area has pretty bad scraches, but it will still get good recognition with a screen protector. the outside of the case looks fair but is scratched a bit. My vaja case is badly scratched in a couple places and isn't the cleanest case around. visor is durable and of high quality for the money. Every time I consider how much I paid for it I am pretty happy. I bought my first palm so I could carry a few rather simple spreadsheets with me to do in-the-field calculations, but it has become a part of everything I do. Not many products out there for $200 which will still be used so frequently and still preform well over a year (of heavy use) later.

Option for mine wasn't really up there:

- Had it forever, but it still looks great.

I don't really baby it (but always have a plastic sheet on the screen), but it always sits in a hip-case when I'm not using it, so not a lot can go wrong. (Don't say that! You'll jinx it!)

This is my second Vdx. I've had it since Feb. 2000. It has many teeny tiny cracks, some scratches on the case, and the paint has worn off the buttons. I've always used screen protectors so my screen is smoooooth. It works great.
I'm using a Rhinoskin leather hip/flip case and although it's only about two months old, it looks older. This case has a tendancy to 'jump' off my hip when I sit in certain cars (since I sell cars now, that is a bit of a problem. I've adjusted by holding on to it when I get into a car-when I remember!) so it's scratched up. It has provided great coverage for my Vdx- I can't complain about that!

It's not. It might be the 'most bulletproof', though, e.g. a cotton t-shirt might be the most bulletproof item when compared to a sheet of paper or nothing.
